anyone heading to the telluride bluegrass festival this weekend? i wish i was…there are a couple of bands playing that i really like, and it looks so beautiful and relaxing there – it definitely seems to draw a really laid back, hippie crowd. colorado is one of the few states in the US i’ve never been to, and i really want to change that very soon…
among the bands playing are alison krauss, yonder mountain string band, bela fleck, edward sharpe and mumford and sons!
there are some really cool old school photos on the website too.
how beautiful are these collages? they are from the etsy shop knitalatte, run by a woman who is a family physician but makes things like these cute little crochet covered rocks, which she arranges into collages and photographs. her blog, resurrection fern, is full of inspiration as well – go check it out, she has tons of lovely photographs of her projects and nature.
kick off your summer at our free people portland store this thursday june 17! they’ll be having a party all day long with special discounts, raffles and more! the store looks so lovely, i’ve always wanted to go to portland…
check out their facebook page for more event details.
we were woken from our dreams early saturday morning – and i mean earlier than i’ve been up in a while on a saturday – because the heat was already making the tents unbearable. the sun was out and we knew it was going to get HOT. we started the day by heading into centeroo, where all the vendors set up shop. they have great vendors at bonnaroo – lots of handmade clothing and accessories, all natural products and surprisingly good food. i picked up a bag that i adore and a beautiful skirt from a shop called the mayan connection – actually all four of us got skirts there :)
as guests we had access to a special area behind one of the stages with a “messy hall” and outdoor seating areas – with hammocks.
right across from the guest area was the artist hospitality area – which looked pretty sweet. we were not allowed in, though…
the first show we went to on saturday was jimmy cliff, who i was really looking forward to seeing. he was awesome – as he was singing “i can see clearly now,” we were told we had to leave the bleachers where we were sitting because a storm was coming in. we were actually kindof excited for rain but the storm never came. umbrellas were everywhere at bonnaroo – not because of rain, but to provide shade from the hot hot sun.
a free people bag in the crowd…
and our new buddy proudly rocks one in the bleachers. i love making friends at bonnaroo :)
next up was mumford & sons who were phenomenal! at one point old crow medecine show came out and played “wagon wheel” with them which was awesome. after that we went over to cafe where? to see angus and julia stone. they were amazing and angus is seriously the cutest thing i’ve ever seen. julia has a gorgeous voice and she can play guitar, keys, the horn and harmonica. she rocks.
and finally, stevie wonder took the stage for his headlining show.
we pulled into bonnaroo as the sun was going down and had just enough time to find the guest camping area and set up our campsite before making our way to the main stage to see the kings of leon. i have never seen them live before and let me tell you they did not disappoint! it was a phenomenal set- the highlights for me were definitely their cover of the pixies song “where is my mind,” and “trani” which i had been hoping to hear!
another benefit of being a guest at bonnaroo? access to the special viewing platform to the side of the stage (and away from the sea of people).
next we headed over to which stage where the flaming lips were about to come on. as usual, they came out with an explosion of lights and color and balloons that was a pretty amazing sight.
the magical mushroom fountain…
it was a very long day and we were exhausted from the heat…we stopped by to see some of the black keys show before heading back to our campsite where we fell asleep listening to the flaming lips play dark side of the moon. not a bad way to end the day!
now we’re off to see what saturday has in store, stay tuned…
greetings from manchester tennessee!!! we made it to bonnaroo last night after a long day of travel and exploring nashville…
fp jemma and i caught an early morning flight down to nashville and spent the day there as we waited for two other fp girls to get in. which was totally fine with us because we got to check out the scene downtown and do some shopping :) downtown nashville was one big party because the country music festival is going on this weekend too.
we had to take our picture with elvis real quick before we got away from the crowd downtown and drove over to south 12th street to check out imogene and willie, the store i blogged about the other day that i’ve been wanting to go to. and sure enough, their dog was right there in the window to greet us!
they had some amazing vintage belts. the guy and girl who were working were extremely nice and told us that the kings of leon come in all the time! after imogene and willie we made the quick drive over to venus and mars, the vintage shop owned by karen elson. this store had a cat sitting on the patio to greet us :)
the store definitely felt like the home of some incredibly fashionable grandmother with racks of vintage dresses and garments in various rooms that are furnished and decorated with antiques. the wooden steps creak as you walk upstairs and there’s even a room with a bathtub overflowing with vintage treasures.
there was an adorable coffee shop right next door with outdoor seating where i could spend hours sipping coffee outside and reading a book.
and a great place to stop for a beer – 12 south tap room!
another one of our favorite artists has a show opening this weekend! go see drawings by our amazing lizzy janssen at B2, located at 1500 east passyunk ave in philly – the opening reception will take place saturday june 12th from 6-8pm. i’m so sad i can’t go to the opening! she’s incredibly talented and adorable, we love her!
bonnaroo is here! the festival officially starts today and i can barely sit still i’m so excited. the four of us will get there tomorrow so if you’re going to bonnaroo look for us with our free people carrier bags! if you spot us we’ll take your photo and add it to our bonnaroo album on facebook and you also could be featured right here on the blog :)
