It's important to remember the cultural and spiritual history of the mandala as well, before just doodling away. The mandala traditionally is used in a religious ceremony (a puja) to represent the universe - drawing one meant that the universe was symbolically represented as a presence and a witness to the ceremony.

Another doodler here. I actually didn't know the name for these types of doodles. You gave me such a great idea for an art project I had been putting off for lack of inspiration. Thank you. XOXO, Erin

My daughter forwarded me your post on Monday, March 3rd about not knowing what lies ahead of us after meeting someone. This was quite a coincidence since I just sent a local magazine an article I wrote about how A Simple “Hello” Can Lead To a Million Things. A simple handshake with someone from Gulu, Uganda led me to become aware of the people and their struggles. This handshake also empowered me to help build a nursery school there and sell paper beads for a women's group and visit there last May. This has been an amazing experience. Be careful who you shake hands with! Just wanted to share, great blog!

You never know from where things may fall in love, or maybe you’ll find a best friend. All the time, all options are happier when you least expect it; I'm always thinking of fashion, just recently reading an article about how profound Cubism was from the beginning -- someone's handshake where maybe love, or maybe a lifefriend came into your heart. How Paris Gave Rise to Cubism (and Picasso): Ambiguity and Fragmentation in Radical Innovation

Post image for Blogger Diary: Stillness On The Shore

A friend’s birthday celebration had me located on Long Beach Island this weekend. I woke early Saturday morning and wandered down to the shore. For something so packed in the high of summer, the winter has turned the island into a desolate patch of sand and sea. Read more »

Post image for A World Amongst The Flowers

A wintery mix made the sky gray as I drove towards Paoli. In the midst of all the snow, I heard I could find a shop that would bring some color into the everlasting white that has enveloped the north for some time now.

Post image for 5 Ways To Enjoy The Sun In The Winter

I hope you all are staying warm on the east coast! It's chilly here in california (sigh, a mere 55 degrees!) but I do miss the snow and the beauty in the way it photographs! Xx, Tiffany { }
balletslippers -Feb 17, 2014, 3:19PM
Thanks for sharing these ideas. I'm lucky, because on a sunny day I get sun on my couch in the afternoon. Other than that, my mom, sister and I like to bundle up with a bunch of blankets and a warm jacket on a not so freezing day, get something hot to drink and just spend half an hour or so sitting in the garden. The warmer it gets towards spring, the less layers are needed :-)
