Post image for Inspiration: Flowers In Your Hair

I love it when spring comes and the trees start to blossom and the streets are full of color and scents that awaken you. I often walk the streets picking the fallen petals. Whether it be for my sketchbook or simply just to decorate a braid I’m wearing for the day. I always find it gives you a little added happiness when you have a flower in your hair. Read more »

Post image for The Concept Behind Our Dark Rose Lookbook

Our trend this week, Dark Rose, conjures up this season’s dark side in feminine lace and opulent onyx. A mixture of lace and chiffon play contrast with black leather and studs. A perfect trend capsule as we start to transition from our winter wardrobes into a spring/summer one. We caught up with our Web Merchandiser to find out how the concept came about. Read more »

Post image for Travel Lust: Lovelane Caravans Cornwall, UK

My most profound memories of my younger years are the caravan holidays I went on. My parents, my sister, and I used to pack small suitcases and then we would drive 4-6 hours to our destination. The destination was usually the English coast line and there, my imagination used to run wild. Having four of us crammed into a little caravan was kind of magical; small little beds, a tiny kitchen and a sitting area that could barely seat 2 people, but I loved it, it was quirky there were no mod-cons, just quality time with the family. We would wake up in the morning, get inventive with breakfast, and then head out for long coastline walks. Read more »

It sounds cliche, but the spring really is an amazing time to clean out your home. Getting rid of the excess can be such a refreshing, uplifting feeling! It helps you to free up some space for whatever new things may find their way into your life and your living quarters. :)

Post image for Piece Together An Outfit With A Mood Board

Whenever I like certain clothing items, I like to create a mood board around them to create a story and a feel that will help me when I’m trying to style myself. I choose fashion photos that have emotions or attitude in them and then I start adding my items to the board. It’s a great way to get inspired to create looks, or if you want to try out a new trend for a new season make a fashion mood board and it will help you. Read more »

Post image for British Sayings We Love

One of the things I miss about home is the funny British sayings.  Here at Free People I get a lot of people confused when things like “I’m just going to pop over”, ”He’s full of beans”, “I had to scarper”, and “you’re off your trolley” slip out of my mouth. I forget that they have no idea what I’m talking about, it makes me giggle slightly and them, too. There’s a certain amount of humor in the British sayings that make me like them a lot more; they’re a little cheeky, maybe it’s the twist of cockney in them that makes them that slightly more intriguing and puzzle-like. I am English and always find it really funny when Americans say sit on your Fanny, or Fanny-Pack. It has a totally different meaning here in the UK!

Post image for A Photo Diary From LA

The streets of LA smell like jasmine, it’s true! Every morning when we left The Chamberlain, our senses were woken by sweet flowering scents making us drift happily through the West Hollywood hills. The LA voyage was a research trip where our buyers seek vintage finds for inspiration for future trends. And I… I was there to photograph our lovely Beach Designer at her Echo Park cottage and to hunt down street style at the famous Rosebowl Flea Market.

Post image for Quiz: How Optimistic Are You?

Spring is almost here! It’s a time for fresh starts, hopefulness, and positive energies, and it has us thinking about optimism. Being pessimistic is an easy trap to fall in to, and it’s also a negative spiral. How you view or react to certain situations can greatly affect your own mood and the energy you give off towards others. Read more »
