one of our fp girls is heading to the sled island music festival in calgary this weekend – here are some of the bands that will be playing and a playlist of their music for you to enjoy!
one of the largest and most eagerly anticipated music festivals in the world starts tomorrow – glastonbury! located on worthy farm in pilton, glastonbury has been going on since 1970 – the day after jimi Hendrix died, to be exact. it has come a long way since its first year, when attendance was only 1500 and the cost of entry was one pound (which included free milk from the farm). now there are too many artists playing to even list, and tickets are extremely hard to come by – but i can see why. it is definitely on my list of festivals that i must attend at some point in my life.
it reminds me of bonnaroo but on a much bigger scale – a farm that transforms into its own bohemian world of music, dancing, laughter and lights. and maybe some mud…
love that last photo…those girls have the right idea!
some of the many acts playing at this year’s glastonbury: gorillaz, muse, stevie wonder, flaming lips, phoenix, the national, lcd soundsystem, mgmt, grizzly bear, black keys, mumford & sons, the xx, julian casablancas, broken social scene, mos def, george clinton with parliament, toots & the maytals, loudon wainwright III, broken bells, local natives, beach house…and many, many more. sigh.
are you going? who are you excited to see? be our eyes and ears… and feel free to send photos to email@example.com :)
top two images from the glastonbury scrapbook.
one of our fp girls (who also went to bonnaroo with us) is currently on vacation following phish around to some of their east coast shows – she sent along some photos for the blog and i’m so jealous. wish i was there…
the ends in sequins dress is a summer concert and festival favorite!
i know its not the easiest to see, but the girl on the left’s hat is rad – check out the pattern on the underside of the brim.
phish will be in camden (just over the bridge from philly) this thursday and friday and a couple of our fp girls are going – will YOU be there??
this album came out a couple of weeks ago but i never got a chance to write about it – it’s ok though because if there was a soundtrack to the americana trend, blitzen trapper would be on it (oh wait, they are…). their music is a mix of indie, folk, rock and country- sort of like mumford and sons, who i wrote about last week, but a little more upbeat and fun and with some definite 60s influence. perfect for a picnic in the sun or a drive across the broad american landscape. just put on their tune “wild mountain nation” and you’ll get the idea- and their second album also had the amazing song “furr” on it, which i still adore. listen to some of their tunes below, including new songs “destroyer of the void” and “heaven and earth.” also check out the video for “furr”, i love it.
directed by jade harris, the video is made up of over 3000 photos and took about two months to create. no animation programs or photoshop elements were used – the entire video is made out of compiled paper.
anyone heading to the telluride bluegrass festival this weekend? i wish i was…there are a couple of bands playing that i really like, and it looks so beautiful and relaxing there – it definitely seems to draw a really laid back, hippie crowd. colorado is one of the few states in the US i’ve never been to, and i really want to change that very soon…
among the bands playing are alison krauss, yonder mountain string band, bela fleck, edward sharpe and mumford and sons!
there are some really cool old school photos on the website too.
bonnaroo really threw me off… i’m all discombobulated. but its tunesday so i wanted to post about one of the bands we saw this weekend that really rocked – mumford & sons! a friend actually recommended them to me a little while back, i listened to a couple of their songs, but wasn’t blown away. after seeing them live my opinion totally changed. they were definitely one of the high points of the weekend and they got the crowd really amped up – surprising for a band who’s music is pretty mellow, a mix of folk rock and a little bit of bluegrass. it doesn’t hurt that they’re also adorable :)
here are some photos from their bonnaroo show (not taken by me, from the bonnaroo website):
now listen to a few songs from their album sigh no more – the last song on the playlist, “lover of the light,” is a new song that they played at bonnaroo and i LOVED it. let me know what you think!
Wow Saturday at Bonnaroo was very VERY hot! I’m surprised I made it through :)
I did manage to snap some girls in cute outfits though.
I quite like the style of Bonnaroo it’s not as high styling as Coachella but hey we’re at a festival right.
I liked how girls wore florals with aztec prints and how they rocked bandeaus with their shorts.
I liked they didn’t care if they got sweaty and passed out on the side of the dirt tacks.
I loved that they danced their hearts out under dirty water fountains and that they swung their hair around like they just don’t care.
The sweet smell of patchouli covered the air.
Bonnaroo I had fun with you
