at the bowery ballroom.
and, funnily enough, they’re on the same record label as bon iver, who we just posted about today.
you know julie, the call center supervisor who was just profiled here yesterday…
well, she was kind enough to write up a little something about one of her favorite musicians, bon iver…
read on, and enjoy.
“Like a quick shot of brandy warming your belly on a cold winter day, Bon Iver sparks a fire in the pit of your stomach and works his way out. His music is layered and reflective, his story-telling frank and selfless. I first found out about him when reading about “Blood Bank”, his latest EP. It was recorded in a remote cabin in Wisconsin, Iver’s home state. The EP is a follow-up to his full length, “For Emma, Forever Ago” which was released in 2008 to much acclaim. Justin Vernon (aka Bon Iver) is building momentum in the US indie charts thanks to a rigorous tour schedule and rave reviews from respected critics.
His music evokes the crisp winter air along with the silence you encounter when you step outside after a brutal snowstorm. He is a single snow flake falling from a white sky, a single voice touching your soul. I encourage everyone to take a listen to Blood Bank and let it captivate you as it did me.”
happy 40th…

If you are in the Chicago area this weekend, you should check out the Wicker Park Festival going on this Saturday and Sunday! This a cool music and arts festival that the Wicker Park & Bucktown area put on every year, with this year’s festival including something like 40 musicians! It starts tomorrow at 12pm, and runs through Sunday evening! Located at the intersection of Milwaukee & North Streets, it’ll be right across the street from our Free People store and our We The Free store! The word is that those stores will be having a big sale this weekend as well! Check out this site or this site for all the details!

I can’t believe all the great musicians that are playing in Camden this weekend! The XPoNential Music Festival is taking place at Wiggins Park on the Camden, New Jersey waterfront, starting today at 4pm through this Sunday! Definitely look into it if you are in the Philadelphia/Camden area, because from the looks of that list of musicians, this is going to be an awesome festival!

If you’re looking for something to do in New York City tonight, check out the The Phenomenal Handclap Band at Joe’s Pub! They’re the first band I’ve been tempted to call “funky” or “groovy” in a long time! They’ve got a fun mellow sound with dance-y beats!

I was so happy to stumble onto this video today! It’s the Rolling Stones back in 1966 performing Paint It Black. I love finding these old performances, and check out Mick’s jacket! It’s amazing. Plus he’s so cute! He he!
Come to Kahn Park at 11th and Pine Street tonight and see an awesome show by the West Philadelphia Orchestra! Their music is really fun, boot-stomping good, inspired the music of Eastern Europe. Check out the video below for a sampling!
