Post image for Color Palette Inspiration: Winter White

It’s always hard to believe how fast the holidays sneak up on us, but I’m already in the spirit. I always like to change up my home décor to get into the feeling of each season – and I don’t just mean by putting up holiday decorations in December. When I think of winter, I feel an overwhelming presence of white; huge, fluffy snowflakes falling gracefully from the sky, covering the ground in a soft, white blanket. Read more »

I love all the white! The cute figurine on the last picture made me giggle! :)
Natalie -Mar 15, 2013, 3:47AM
The Decor looks absolutely elegant and stunning in white. The decorations aren't too complicated or complex but plain and simple which makes use of commonly found items in the house just that all of them do have a white color. This whole setup looks classy and elegant. It gives a cool composure to the place. Really beautiful. Keep up the great work. Keep posting more interesting stuff like this. :)

DIY: Photo Bunting

Post image for DIY: Photo Bunting

Bunting is a fun way to decorate for a party; it’s easy, pretty, and you can hang it anywhere you like. The other day here at Free People it was my sister’s Bridal Shower and for the occasion I made some bunting to hang delicately on the wall. The theme I used was “a couple in love” and printed out photos of her and her fiance throughout the years they have been together. Read more »

Love this idea! Think I will be using it for an upcoming surprise party. Thanks

Post image for DIY Hammered Leaf Prints

UPDATE: This post originally ran on November 1st 2012 but we wanted to share it again while we still have some time left to take advantage of those beautiful fall leaves!

One of the best things about fall is without a doubt the gorgeous explosion of colors when the leaves turn.  The mixture of vibrant red, orange, yellow, and green is breathtaking and I hate that it’s always so fleeting. Read more »

Jennifer -Dec 30, 2012, 3:28PM
This is an amazing idea. There are so many different ways you can do leaf imprints, this one looks to be my favorite. The added bonus is everything you use is easily accessible in the home, its not messy and you can have your kids help you. I think canvas would be awesome to try this on and then frame it for a nice seasonal piece.

look up 'hapazome' or india flint. flint came up with hapazome when she didn't have any materials to naturally dye with in japan on so much fabric. she ended up dyeing the fabric by hammering flowers and leaves.

I've seen no mention of the wish list winner? :/ Hopefully it's up soon? Also, I'm still drooling over those boots..
Not Suprised -Nov 23, 2012, 3:46PM
I was hoping with all of the cultural appropriation from Free People, there would be be a little mention of the real reason we have thanksgiving and all of the horrible things that happened to so many Natives.

Post image for Poll: Stage Right

This week’s trend Stage Right pulls together great holiday outfits that will make sure you stand out in any crowd. Touches of sparkles mixed with black, ivory, and soft pink create looks that are edgy, cool, and feminine. We love how versatile these looks are whether it’s a pair of embellished denim shorts worn with suspenders, a long flowing maxi dress worn with knee high boots, or a sequin dress worn casually with a sweater. They are all so pretty... I wonder what she is holding in photo 3, if that is a neon crinoline I want one!

My husband mentioned that he was going to get me a belated birthday present, he was really excited, my b'day was in October and he already gave me a pair of amazing Mohop shoes, so I was kinda confused... then, the other day, he had forgotten to turn his laptop off, and there on the screen it was, proof or the purchase of a Shimmy shimmy party dress that I had been lusting after since I first saw it... :o) :o) :o)

Hi, Sarah... Sure, not everyone likes summer or the heat, but SAD therapy can be applied with a light therapy box and doesn't involve heat or sweating or anything like that. I highly recommend getting a SAD light and there is research that suggests that taking Vitamin D helps as well. You can learn more about Seasonal Affective Disorder at
Sarah -Dec 21, 2013, 11:42AM
Hello there... Just curious, but what about those of us who cannot stand summer. I despise sweating and feeling uncomfortable all summer long....summer is my mood killer. Guess moving to the mountains would be my best bet? : )

Hhhmm... the blue tinted ones gave me an idea. Let me know if you think this might be feasible. Say I get a tube of those plastic fish and some clear lightweight fishing line, do you think I could skewer and string one fish per line, glue the lines to the top to make little underwater scenes?
