For those wondering about washing soda, I found this handy: http://naturesnurtureblog.com/ttt-turn-baking-soda-into-washing-soda/ I tried finding washing soda in Target and failed, so made my own. Super easy! 1/4 cup baking soda on a cookie sheet, bake at 400°F for a few minutes.

Post image for How To Avoid A Parking Ticket

When I moved to Brooklyn, my car came along with me. Within my first week or so, I was hit with several parking tickets – I even woke up one fine morning to find that my car had been towed. Read more »

I set a reminder for when to move my car AND where it's parked! I also find that moving it early in the morning is easier than night time because people who drive to work vacate their spots. NYC also has a twitter account and calendar announcing the holidays for alternate side parking that are incredibly useful time-savers on certain days.

Post image for Care for Your Local Wildlife With These Homemade Bird Feeders

Heya- Just a passing comment as an ecologist- feeding birds in areas that get real winters (obviously excluding Florida) and migrating birds, putting out bird feeders like these out in the winter actually detours the birds from migrating as they would normally and ends in its ultimate death. Something we call an "ecological trap". Be mindful of this..

Beautiful idea! Looks good and good for birds also! www.safran-bolu.com

Thanks Andrea! We will be making a natural sunscreen next season, but it the meantime, Safe Mama has a great article on the toxic chemicals to avoid and also some suggestions for safe products (link below). Also coconut, olive, almond, castor oils & others have a natural SPF of up to 7.5! http://safemama.com/cheatsheets/sunscreen/ And a handy chart! http://livingprettynaturally.com/natural-oil-sunscreens-what-you-need-to-know/ Corina McDonnell Co-founder
