I love reading stories about people who leave a 'traditional' career to follow their passion -- and make it work! It's so inspiring to read about Onna and I think everything she says about why people don't cook is totally spot on. I've always loved food and cooking but by far one of the most helpful things I ever did was take a cooking class with a professional chef years ago. I learned all those basics like how to hold knives, cut ingredients properly, the right heat for different recipes -- it was a bunch of small things that gave me so much confidence and really encouraged me to cook at home even more than before. I would LOVE to take a class at Onna's studio -- they all sound like so much fun! I'll have to see if there's something similar in my hometown, at least until I can make a visit out to Philly =) Your photos are so lovely Naomi! Thanks for sharing this amazing woman's story! xo www.threadandbones.com

Post image for Boredom: A Blessing In Disguise

It’s like a stagnant hum that lingers in the mind. It comes about, somewhat unannounced, and shoos any form of entertainment out the door: Boredom. Read more »

When you are bored, do not complain!! Realize that boredom = free time = a time to get to know oneself better. Grab a brush, a camera, a book--try to stay away from the tv--go out into nature and become nature. Our lives are so guided to distance ourselves from our true selves, our nature, our spirit and bodies--mother earth within us. Go find what makes your heart move. I'm really fortunate to have grown up in southern california. I call the beaches up and down the coast from san clemente to laguna beach home, and I grew up surfing, paddleboarding and running on beachside trails. My school has an ocean view, and i work on PCH at the best local surf shop. California has such a special place in my heart. Free people should definitely think about taking a trip down to San Clemente and Laguna Beach, it has the most magical secluded beaches, good food and the locals are always friendly.

South bay (socal's south bay) born and raised! I couldn't have asked for a more wonderful place to grow up. Although I love traveling, every time I fly over downtown, see dodger stadium from the air in front of mountains and the ocean in the distance, I get chills. It always feels so good to come home no matter where I've been.
