“johnny literally broke all boundaries in the lighting world this weekend!  i am still in complete awe of what this all looked like. it was the most unbelievable thing i have ever seen!”

check out a quick clip of the lights in action- i’ve never seen anything like it either:

there was an article about the festival on the cover of the new york times yesterday – check that out here.

life in a day

this is such a cool idea! “life in a day” is a cinematic experiment produced by ridley scott and directed by kevin macdonald, together with the youtube community.   the goal is to capture a snapshot, through many different eyes, of what life is like on earth during one 24 hour period.  how are they going to do this?

they are asking YOU – anybody and everybody – to chronicle their life on one day, july 24 2010. this could be your daily routine, your job, what you’re afraid of, what you love, a pretty sunset, ANYTHING. you can then upload your video on the project’s website, and the most compelling and distinctive videos will be edited into the final feature film.  the film will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2011 – and if your video is used, you’ll be credited as a co-director and have a shot at being one of 20 people who gets to go to sundance to celebrate with kevin macdonald.

ummm…..wow? i’m curious, what would your film be about?

hot fun in the summer time

what is everyone doing for the 4th of july weekend?

the nateva camping and music festival starts today in oxford, maine with artists including furthur, the flaming lips, she & him, passion pit and grizzly bear – sounds like a great time. and if you’re in philly, the annual free concert on the parkway takes place on sunday night.

we’re out at noon today and i’m heading to the beach!!! can’t wait…i’ll be posting throughout the weekend so don’t worry! :)

till then… these photos by christopher ferguson really capture what this weekend is all about.

are you going to glasto?

one of the largest and most eagerly anticipated music festivals in the world starts tomorrow – glastonbury!  located on worthy farm in pilton, glastonbury has been going on since 1970 – the day after jimi Hendrix died, to be exact.  it has come a long way since its first year, when attendance was only 1500 and the cost of entry was one pound (which included free milk from the farm). now there are too many artists playing to even list, and tickets are extremely hard to come by – but i can see why. it is definitely on my list of festivals that i must attend at some point in my life.

it reminds me of bonnaroo but on a much bigger scale – a farm that transforms into its own bohemian world of music, dancing, laughter and lights. and maybe some mud…

love that last photo…those girls have the right idea!

some of the many acts playing at this year’s glastonbury: gorillaz, muse, stevie wonder, flaming lips, phoenix, the national, lcd soundsystem, mgmt, grizzly bear, black keys, mumford & sons, the xx, julian casablancas, broken social scene, mos def, george clinton with parliament, toots & the maytals, loudon wainwright III, broken bells, local natives, beach house…and many, many more. sigh.

are you going? who are you excited to see? be our eyes and ears… and feel free to send photos to blog@freepeople.com :)

top two images from the glastonbury scrapbook.

phish phans

one of our fp girls (who also went to bonnaroo with us) is currently on vacation following phish around to some of their east coast shows – she sent along some photos for the blog and i’m so jealous. wish i was there…

the ends in sequins dress is a summer concert and festival favorite!

i know its not the easiest to see, but the girl on the left’s hat is rad – check out the pattern on the underside of the brim.

phish will be in camden (just over the bridge from philly) this thursday and friday and a couple of our fp girls are going – will YOU be there??

rocky mountain high

anyone heading to the telluride bluegrass festival this weekend? i wish i was…there are a couple of bands playing that i really like, and it looks so beautiful and relaxing there – it definitely seems to draw a really laid back, hippie crowd.  colorado is one of the few states in the US i’ve never been to, and i really want to change that very soon…

among the bands playing are alison krauss, yonder mountain string band, bela fleck, edward sharpe and mumford and sons!

Bonnaroo Day 2 – Sweaty Hot Saturday!

Untitled-8sizedUntitled-9sizedUntitled-10sized

Wow Saturday at Bonnaroo was very VERY hot! I’m surprised I made it through :)

I did manage to snap some girls in cute outfits though.

I quite like the style of Bonnaroo it’s not as high styling as Coachella  but hey we’re at a festival right.

I liked how girls wore florals with aztec prints and how they rocked bandeaus with their shorts.

I liked  they didn’t care if they got sweaty and passed out on the side of the dirt tacks.

I loved that they danced their hearts out under dirty water fountains and that they swung their hair around like they just don’t care.

The sweet smell of patchouli covered the air.

Bonnaroo I had fun with you

xoxo

Bonnaroo Round One

Untitled-3sizedUntitled-4sized

Hey Hey! I’m back giving you the style coverage from the festivals – this time around we’ve hit Bonnaroo in Nashville Tennessee. Mmmmmm or should I say Sweataroo, my is it DAMN hot here. Even Mr Followil of the Kings of Leon thought so “this is the hottest I’ve ever been… man!” but I didn’t mind seeing Caleb all sweaty. I didn’t mind at all :)

We arrived at the festival at 9 set up camp under the pitch black sky then headed into the drunken humid air.  It was very hard at this point to spot people who intrigued me with their style as the majority  were crashed out on the floor star gazing/ light headed.

One thing I noticed though tie dye was everywhere. A look I loved was long tie dye skirts (ok not the wacky packy style) the toned down versions worn with cropped lace tops.

The crowd at Bonnaroo is alot dirtier than Coachella, many girls walk around in just two piece string bikinis, but hey I don’t blame them the heat is a killer!

After seeing Kings of Leon ( highlight Caleb singer ‘Where is My Min’d by the Pixies!!!! ) we bumped into Noot Seear who modelled for us in our July catalog. She is such a sweetheart we love her and I loved her pants!

Ok that’s all form the friday night. We have a full day here today so hopefully some exciting coverage will come your way — BYE!
