shredded t tutorial

I’m totally inspired by this tutorial on childhood flames for artfully shredding a t-shirt. Check out her blog for the step by step, or just checkout the video. It takes hours, but looks amazing!

The day after I saw this my bestie and I decided to make spirit shirts for our last football game.. we took large shirts and cut, tied, braided, and every thing you can imagine to them.. I started pulling at mine and we both added it.. I played with it during every class so far (did I mention im wearing it right now?) and its about halfway up the shirt on the front!!! LOVE IT!!

Daydream Lily
posted this image of a beach on Thailand. I’ve never been there, but I want to go just to witness this!
They release these lanterns on the beach as a symbol of good luck. How beautiful!

A hearty congratulations to our Free People Fashion Illustration Contest winner, Tuesday Mourning of South Pasadena, California! Hooray!
All of the entries we received were so special, it was really really difficult to pick a winner! You guys are an exceptionally talented bunch, and we had never gotten so many gorgeous illustrations by email and snail-mail before! Thank you so very much to everyone who participated! We truly enjoyed seeing your work!
Since we loved all the entries so much, we are currently in the process of saving them all in a set on our Flickr account, so be sure to check them out!

Hey Nicol! I'm sorry to report that we would like to avoid putting full names and other personal information on the Flickr account. However, if you send the pictures of the artists you are interested in to blog.freepeople@gmail.com, I can email you a couple names if you would like to research their artwork. Hope this helps! Thanks! xo p

Hey, I was one of the artists that submitted and I was wondering if you could switch the names of the files to the name of the artist who's piece it was so that if people want to look at more of their work they know who did it. There were a couple that i would like to look at if they have portfolios. Is there a way we can implement this?

Well, first off I would like to apologize for the lack of a poll last week, and a late poll this week! Last week I am afraid I didn’t notice it was Thursday until it already had become Friday! (I’m so embarrassed!) Then this week I wondered if the polls had perhaps become obsolete – but now I am happy to announce the return of the Thursday Poll in full force, due to popular demand! Hooray! Next week we will be back to normal, with the Thursday Polls showing up on Thursday!
For our fun little Friday poll this week, I wanted to ask you all about jeans, since lately I have been thinking about jean fits. It seemed to me that for a while, flared jeans went ‘out’ and skinny tight jeans were the only style that was ‘in.’ But lately I’ve noticed jeans of all styles and fits are coming ‘in’, and I love the variety!
Shown below are our FP Skinny Denim Jeans, which are a good example of the skinny & straight fit.

Here we have our Distressed Flare Jean by Pratt’s, shown in blue. They are a nice example of a flared or bootcut style of jean.

Finally, below are our FP Stretch Wide-Leg Jeans, which exemplify the wide-leg or boyfriend style of jeans.

So which fit do you prefer to wear?

Wow! You guys really do look a lot alike! I am not sure who the model is, since she works for Urban, and we generally try to avoid using the same models as they - but I can ask the girls who hire models around here if they've seen her before, (I bet they have) and see what there is to find out about her. I'll let you know!
Katie Eargle -Oct 17, 2008, 11:14AM
can't go wrong with flared jeans! also, i have to ask you for some help. I saw this model months back and I've always been fascinated to find out who she is, since i look a lot like her her: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v627/spaceangel/n1570620176_30190660_3218.jpg me: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v627/spaceangel/n1570620176_30184251_6326.jpg they say there's a twin for someone in the world and I think she's mine! haha

Check out the latest We the Free shop at 1401 N. Milwaukee Ave in Chicago!
Read more about We the Free, or shop online.

found my animal leashes

A friend of Free People recommended I check out this great company that donates part of their proceeds to the Louis Animal Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to placing animals that have not yet found their humans in loving homes.
Found My Animal sells these beautiful leashes made by New England rope makers, the strong rope being a great alternative to leather. The leashes also feature bronze hardware and brass tags stamped with FOUND, and each is numbered to keep track of the number of animals that have been helped.
Check out their site for more info and pictures of cute doggies!

I love this video of Getz & Gilberto singing The Girl from Ipanema in a movie from 1964. Vintage, beautiful!

Check out this awesome photo essay by David Friedman! He tells about it best: I shot these photos at a denim factory in Kentucky that specializes in distressing high-end jeans for a few top designers. I used to scoff at paying a premium for jeans that come with holes in them already. Then I saw just how much work goes into distressing jeans, and I realized that these people are artists. You can’t just have any loose threads, you have to have the right loose threads. They can’t just be faded. They have to be the right color. A lot of work goes into making these jeans look just right.
I put my favorite shots below – click here to see the whole essay on David’s blog!

We went to Lexington, VA…we stayed in that big beautiful house!!! (owned by our Art Director’s friend) We didn’t have to go far for great photos, and we got to have a cook out with the whole “family”… We made some new friends…..Stoney (the husky) and Noodge (the kitty…because he likes to nudge you with his head)…Virginia was gorgeous. Nobody wanted to leave!
