I love quirky little details… today I kept noticing little things that made an outfit unique, like a little bit of leather on a denim shirt, pairing a vintage tee with a sequin vest, adding suspenders to the basic denim and tee, statement collar necklaces, striped denim and leopard, neon bracelets – you name it, our FP girls are rocking it.

Sunday the 22nd of January we went to Johnny Brenda’s – a charismatic bar, restaurant and music venue that has a strong presence mainly to do with the amount of awesome bands that sail through there, one being Twin Sister who we managed to catch up with while they sound checked and nibbled on Whiskey doughnuts. Whenever Paris Couture starts running I get giddy over fashion and the excitement of fashion weeks starts running through me. Paris Couture is what fashion dreams are made of, a traditional love and lure for craftsmanship and fine details, it’s fashion design at its very best and you can’t help but show true respect for it. The level of workmanship from the ateliers is especially inspiring. From Karl Lagerfeld’s tribute to shades of blue for Chanel, Valentino’s key to the eighteenth century’s Age of Enlightenment and “real” values to Elie Saab’s easy to digest rainbow of shiny, beautiful pink, peach, yellow, mint green and baby blue gowns.
Paris Couture shows true love to fashion “Fashion needs culture or it becomes empty” said Pier Paolo Piccioli and that’s so true. Now I’m looking forward to the ready to wear shows to begin 9 days and counting!
This week’s style file is our Associate Buyer for accessories, who traveled to the US from England to work at Free People. Her style is quirky and avant garde. It’s full of color and pattern – often with a theme like neon or turquoise. I love the risks she takes. There’s no fear, and nothing is too outrageous. It is, however, always inspiring.
I have a lot of Free People in my closet, but one of the best FP purchases I’ve ever made was hands down my vegan leather jacket. It looks like real leather (in fact, most people think it is), its comfy, fits well, goes with everything and is still in great shape, despite being worn quite frequently. I was thrilled to hear that we’d be continuing with vegan leather, and some new product just arrived on our site that is to die for! We’ve got something for every girl – a new hooded vegan leather jacket, a smocked vegan leather dress, new vegan leather shorts in a washed pink color, a vegan leather bustier, and old favorites like the pleated vegan leather skirt are back. Check out some styling inspiration from our store girls below, and then play it cool and check out the new vegan leather on our website!

“While some see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”

“Once upon a time there was a girl who had 7 invisible horses. People thought she was crazy and that she in fact had 7 imaginary horses, but this was not the case. When autumn came the girl spent a whole day washing all her clothes. She hung them on a string in her garden to let the gentle autumn sun dry them. Out of nowhere, a terrible storm came and its fierce-full winds grabbed a hold of all her clothes and all seven horses (authors note: since they are invisible they obviously didn’t weigh much). The girl was devastated and spent all autumn looking for each horse spread around the country, wrapped in her clothes.”
I was so taken with this photography project by Ulrika Kestere, I had to share. Wonderfully creative and beautiful!
I took so many photos of this one wall in our Philly store, I felt like I needed to give it its own post. There was so much to look at, it took my breath away. Artwork, potted plants, memorabilia from around the world had my eyes darting back and forth, snapping away with my camera trying to capture it all. One of the coolest parts? Some of the artwork is actually for sale!
Remember when we posted the DIY Aztec Nail Art Video, well we’ve had some people try it out for themselves and they have been uploading onto instagram and tagging #FreePeople. Read More
