Office Style: Fp girls are Rock Steady this week!

This week we are feeling a little grungy – the weather hasn’t been too great, so to give some attitude back we’ve pulled out our vintage rock tee’s and our grungy boots to help us get through the grey rainy days.

Our web merchandiser is a huge fan of Motley Crue and has a great selection of vintage concert tees. She makes them hippie cool by teaming them with Fp bohemian necklaces. I also wanted to dedicate this office style to a lovely intern we have here. She wears Fp most days and looks adorable – she’s quite a stylist too.

And of course all these outfits are worn with leather jackets when we head outside in the rain. Hopefully the weather will brighten next week :(

Here’s the second addition of RAFW from Mandy at oracle fox. She sent images from the Alice McCall’s collection, which was beautiful. The colour scheme was soft – jet black juxtaposed and gave it that hard edge when needed. Soft light shapes seemed to flow down the runway items that were interpretations of familiar volumes and forms. I loved the billowing backs of some of the garments and the intricate cutout details that was featured on some of the oversized tunic dresses.

Australia Fashion week looks like so much fun, I’d love to get my hands on one of those goodie bags!

First two images are from the Alice McCall show, 3rd images decoration, and 4th 5th and 6th from the Nookie show.

Macrame anyone?

Macramé has landed on our fp page bringing a little bit of unique texture to our summer feet. Many people get confused with Macramé and crochet so here’s a little about its background. Macramé is an art of decorative knotting without using needles or hooks. By using a series of knots, it can be created using any kind of material. You can use fine thread or even use leather strips. The outcome – a truly unique texture that creates interest.

We love the 1970’s influence and the workmanship aesthetic it portrays deriving from the early sailors of the seven seas.  Sailors made macramé objects in off hours while at sea, and sold or bartered them when they landed, thus spreading the art to places like China and the New World. Nineteenth-century British and American sailors made hammocks, bell fringes, and belts from macramé. They called the process “square knotting”, after the knot they used most frequently.

However, the trend has made its way back and made an impact on the runaways for spring/summer 2011, but how do you wear such an intricate look?

Let the texture tell the story of your outfit; team with a simple sundress and brown satchel, maybe a no print outfit would work best avoiding over busy-ness or run wild with the 70’s look and team some cute little Macramé shoes with bell bottoms and a simple tee.

We’re loving the shoes that are featured here they’re the ideal summer shoe!

A photo diary from Australia Fashion Week

We reached out to Mandy, our blogger friend at Oracle Fox, to guest blog for Free People from Australia Fashion Week. I was super excited that she was willing to do this for us, as it’s one of my favorite fashion weeks around, and we knew she would do a stellar job documenting it!

She documented the scene of great fashion and the beautiful relaxed lifestyle Australia has to offer. Here’s round 1 of her favorite shows. If you could go to any fashion week which one would you choose? Mine would definitely be Australia.

“The styling at the Miss Unkon show was spectacular!! I loved the beautiful earth tone colour palette and the way the show was accessorized with long delicate necklaces, tribal braiding and incredible body art!”
