shiela’s story

today’s fan story is from sheila from portland OR, a student and artist who sent in some of her recent work.  she wrote that she loves fiber art and is always inspired by the materials that free people uses, and has incorporated some tears from  fp catalogs into her work.

i love how personal her work is, some of it containing little sentences or phrases that are like a peek into her diary.  awesome stuff, thanks for sharing shiela! you can check out more of her work here.

and don’t forget to keep the stories coming to blog@freepeople.com!

NYC photo diary

i mentioned last week that i was lucky enough to be able to go to our april catalog shoot in nyc… well here is a little visual diary of the trip!

on the train ride up i could barely contain my excitement for the day ahead…

we shot in milk studios, an amazing warehouse-like space in the meatpacking district.

a beautiful day in nyc!

a day in the life: michele ouellet

you may recognize this girl from some free people catalogs! she modeled in our december ’09 and january ’10 books, and i interviewed her back then for the blog. michele often works in paris – and hung out with our team while they were shooting there – so i asked her for a little rundown of her ideal day off in paris!

paris! such a fun, beautiful city. i love working there and no matter how many times i visit there is always something fabulous to discover! the city is set up in such a way that nearly every corner you turn, a gorgeous monument or bridge or statue or building is right in front of you. there is so much to take in! whenever i have some time to kill between castings i explore st. germain and le marais or pop into one of the many museums. my perfect day off would look something like this…

office tattoo style

i know that tattoos aren’t for everyone, but i’ve always thought they are beautiful.  it’s a form of art and a way to express yourself that is completely unique from anyone else and very personal and meaningful. i love seeing other peoples’ tattoos and hearing the meaning behind them – its like being let in on a secret.  i sometimes think of my tattoos almost like scars- and i don’t mean that in a negative way.  they represent things that i have gone through, things that have left their mark on me – emotional scars, perhaps.

there are several people here in the office that have amazing tattoos and i thought i’d share a few.

chau’s beautiful tattoo is her own handwriting – she’s an amazing artist.

our graphic designer’s tattoos were done by a friend.

our videographer and one of her close friends got this matching tattoo.

IMG_2348

my favorite of my tattoos… it came to me  in a dream, and the meaning is inspired by a song, but that’s all i will say :)

IMG_2400

jemma’s tattoo is inspired by times spent bird watching with her dad.

IMG_2408

this is so rad – it’s actually a map of all the places she and her best friend used to hang out.

and just one of our photographer’s many amazing tattoos.

how do you guys feel about tattoos? do you have one, or if you got one, what would you get?

wednes-diy

i’m so in love with these hand-painted wooden coasters that i saw on design sponge the other day! they have been painted with hex signs that the author traced onto the wood with carbon paper, but it would be fun to make your own patterns as well :) such a great way to add a bit of color to your coffee table!

chez miss pandora

ever wish you could take a peek inside the home of a fashion blogger? i always imagine what their homes look like, what they surround themselves with and what inspires them – the way people decorate their place is so indicative of their personality – i love checking out peoples’ music and book collections in particular :)

our stylists snapped some photos at louise ebel’s home in paris and isn’t it charming? i love the little knick knacks everywhere – you can tell she’s a sentimental person who holds on to gifts, treasured items and dried flowers, which i love! i’m the same way.
