One of our Facebook friends, Mia, spent the summer on a beautiful farm in Iowa. She and her father took lots of really pretty photos of her on the farm, modeling Free People clothes! She was kind enough to share the pictures with us, check them out!
Meanwhile, our Web Marketing Analyst Megan came across this pretty lady on Elle News Blog! She is wearing the Cape May Top and one of our shopping bags! So cute!
Have you guys had any Free People sightings lately?
Now for part two of the photos our Art Director, Doub, took on her trip to London!
While Doub was in London, whenever she was out walking on the street, she would take pictures of all the cute girls she saw! Click here to check out the first set!

I have posted about Tim Walker's fashion photography in the past, but Andrea Galvani's lovely photos yesterday really put us in the mood for more, both from Andrea and Tim!
All the photos above are by Tim Walker. I love them so much! We all do - his work is a source of inspiration for all of us at FP! These shots are from a really great book of Tim's work called I Love Pictures. The book is very hard to come by these days, but we are really lucky in that our Art Director has a copy that we can all pour over from time to time! See more of Tim's work on his website, and don't miss our previous Tim Walker post either!
We're loving these inspiring shots of model Erin Wasson lately! What's funny is that we have the magazine right here, but we simply cannot figure out the title of the magazine! We've looked all through it and there's no title, nothing in the contents even. What kind of magazine doesn't let you know what you're reading? Apparently, ones with fabulous pictures of Erin Wasson in them. Ha ha!
There is something very arresting about these photographs, don't you think? They're by Italian photographer Andrea Galvani, who is also a Photography Professor at the Accademia Carrara di Belle Arti di Bergamo. Something about the horse photos in particular put me in mind of Tim Walker, but maybe with muted colors. Do you see it too?
Recently our Web Operations Manager, Heather, helped to organize a really fun event here in Philly, the Independance Day Scooter Rally! It lasts for a whole weekend, and this year was very successful, with over 150 people who showed up from all over- two ladies even came all the way from Oklahoma! Heather kindly shared a few really cool pictures from the rally, check them out!
Scooters under the El By Damon.
I love the bohemian look of these pictures! I would love to hang out in a room like that, and wearing those clothes! We pulled them a while ago for inspiration, but now no one can remember where they came from! Do any of you know?
As I'm sure many of you know, there was a solar eclipse today, which was visible to a lot of Asia. The always spectacular Big Picture photo blog by Boston.com has a wonderful post of images from the eclipse. The images above are from that post - aren't they great?! The eclipse itself is so amazing, but I think my favorite pictures are the ones of people looking at the eclipse. Check out the post here - it's worth it!
We are obsessing over this editorial from H&MMagazine! The pictures, shot by Camilla Åkrans, are so light and airy and warm! Perfect for summer. Also, you might recognize the model, Anne V, from our April catalog. See the rest of this inspiring set at Fashion Gone Rogue!
This is a signed copy of Lauren's book! It features portraits of many amazing folk and indie musicians, including Devendra, naturally!
Here everyone is waiting around for the show to start!
Devendra is getting ready to go on... He sure is a cutie!
Devendra is about to go up and everyone is getting psyched! Also, on the left you can almost see the front of the We The Free store - there's a guy peeking inside! Hope he likes what he sees!
The show begins!
Everyone loves it!
Our Managers-in-Training, Antonella and Laura, are huge Devendra fans, and they watched the show from the store garage. They look so pretty!
These gorgeous shots are from an editorial by Steven Meisel that appeared in Vogue Italia in 2003. The first and last photos are particularly eye-catching, don't you think?
We're loving this gorgeous and inspirational set by Ben Watts! Dreamin' indeed...
Also, you may recognize the model, Noot- she was in our March catalog!
Check out this video to see her showing off all the cool clothes in her closet.
These beautiful images of waves are by Japanese photographer Syoin Kajii. Syoin is a Buddhist monk residing at a seaside temple on Sado Island, where he works on his photography as well. His photos from this gorgeous set were recently featured in Foam Photography Magazine. I would love to get lost in any of them!
These whimsical photos are all from August Bradley's series for the Hasselblad Masters Book. I love the colors, the props, and the clothes especially! Fishnet tights over solid tights anyone?
You may be aware that haute-couture fashion designer Christian LaCroix recently filed for bankruptcy. However, yesterday he showed a really lovely and rather dark collection in Paris in what might have been his last show. Sad! Reportedly a lot of people cried at the end of the show! Still, the clothes were gorgeous! Check out many more of the looks here on Jezebel and here on The Cut!
Aren't these pictures lovely? The pretty girl is Johanna, one of our Sales Associates at our store in Torrance California! She sent me the pictures today, with this little note: During a recent shoot in Santa Barbara, California, I donned the gorgeous sequin mesh tunic in white. The setting sun managed to perfectly capture the light from the sequins, making for some luminous and beautiful photos!
I agree, they look so gorgeous! Thank you so much for sharing them with us Johanna!
Richard Heeks takes these beautiful photos of soap bubbles. I can't imagine how difficult it would be to capture the bubbles at just the right moment! Check out his Flickr stream - he a lot of really arresting shots!
Today is the USA's Independence Day - it's our 233rd birthday! Hooray! I hope everyone is out enjoying themselves and eating yummy food and getting ready for awesome fireworks celebrations like the ones above! I'm off to get ready and try to get my own pictures of fireworks!
xo
When the paper company Arjowiggins unveiled its new fancy paper line Curious Collection, they wanted to do something with a lot of impact to announce it! With the help of French photographer Grégoire Alexandre, they did! Aren't these pictures incredible?! See some fun behind-the-scenes video here! (Along the sidebar.)
I love these shots from a set posted over on KnightCat. The layers and embellishments are fabulous! And the vests! Do any of you know what magazine these photos came from? Looks like maybe French Vogue, but I couldn't say... See more pictures from the set on KnightCat!
I know this picture has already been making the rounds on lots of blogs lately, but it's so cute I couldn't resist posting it, just in case you hadn't seen it! The photo is by David Sykes, who tells us about the photo on his site: This latest piece of personal work is all shot in one shot on 5×4 transparency. I comissioned a model maker, Ridley West, to make a giant plate that we could attach to the wall, and with the help of Jennie Webster who sourced some amazing balloons, this shot was the result.
I've been getting lost in an awesome photostream of work by fashion photographer Tom Palumbo this afternoon. I love his compositions, and just the feel of his work in general! So inspiring!
Check out the Tom Palumbo photostream here.
Via Booooooom!
I love these gorgeous shots from Chris Nicholls fashion photography set An English Rose. They're just so so pretty! See the whole set right here, on Chris' site.
Flickr user Straatis has a really interesting collection of photos of New York City in the 1940's. There is something so amazing about a photograph from the past, and actually seeing what was like 70 years ago! Not to mention seeing the Big Apple 70 years ago! Check out the set if you've got a little bit of time!
I love the simple and interesting compositions of these photos by Yamamoto Masao. I think that the simpleness and calmness of the photos makes them all the more striking. Check out more here.
These gorgeous images were all taken using infrared photography, which uses an image sensor or film that is sensitive to infrared light, as opposed to normal visible light. The way various objects reflect infrared light is quite different from how they reflect visible light, which is why the green on the trees turns white, and the sky looks much darker. Learn more about infrared photography here and here!
Last night our Free People kickball team had it's final game of the season. Though we lost to Urban Outfitters with a score of 8 to 7, the FP team competed admirably, and had a lot of fun!
Some members of the team get psyched for the game!
Ever since Lark About posted a few shots of British supermodel Jean Shrimpton the other day, I have been on a kick, collecting images of her! They're great old fashion photos, and she has such a classic look! Love!
I've enjoyed browsing through Polanoid, where these pictures are from, for a good part of this morning! Polanoid is in the process of building the biggest Polaroid-picture-collection on the planet to celebrate the magic of instant photography. I don't know that it beats Flickr, but I like it! Check it out if you are a fan of photos!
I'm finding some inspiration today in these cool pictures from Hedi Slimane Fashion Diary. If you've never visited it, definitely check it out! It has enough fashion photography to keep you busy for hours and hours!
I was really struck by this editorial posted on KnightCat earlier today - but what really gets me is the make-up! Everyone at KnightCat was commenting on the hair. Her hair is great, but that eye make-up is just incredible! If I thought I could ever apply those gorgeous eyelashes in the first picture (without poking my eyes out) I would in a second!
What do you guys think? And does anyone happen to know what magazine these shots came from?
I'm really enjoying the set Demoniac Babble by Estelle Hanania! Partly it's because I like the costumes so much - wow. I'd love to walk around in one of those! The pictures have a really interesting feel though - click here for more!
These fun pictures are all from the awesome photo comic My Milk Toof. It's really really sweet and really good! You should definitely check it out for a hefty dose of cuteness!
These fancy cupcakes were photographed by Therese Aldgard and styled by Lisa Edsalv. They were reportedly inspired by Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Christian Louboutin and Betsey Johnson, but I couldn't find any shots of the Betsey Johnson ones, rather I found the Agent Provocateur cupcakes on Lisa's site. So perhaps my source had it mixed up! At any rate, I would love to have a print of one of these photos! The Chanel or Louboutin shots especially would spruce my apartment right up! After these and the fashion lollipops, I wonder what kind of fashion foods are next!
I'm really entranced by these pictures from the show for Chanel's resort fashions. I keep coming back to them! The hairstyles seem to call back to the early 20th century, or at least, they do to me! Every time I look at them I'm reminded of the flappers, or even faintly of the Gibson Girls.
I love these pensive photos from Renate Aller's set Fixed Coordinates! They are so expansive and soothing! Each picture was taken at the same point on Westhampton Beach, hence the title of the set. It would be awesome to have a huge huge print of one of these - or even wall mural sized! See more of her work on Ruby Beets, or her site of course!
These are from a set by Brock Davis in which he explores how things that don't shatter might look if they did shatter. A simple idea, but I like them - especially the coffee cup! It's convincing.
See more on Brock's site or Cyana Trend Land.
ScarlettCat found these gorgeous pictures on !?, which is a Tumblr just filled with inspirational fashion photography. A great find! Check it out if you enjoy fashion photos for sure!
The latest issue of Dazed has a cool piece on some of the newest models who walked the London catwalks this year. The pictures remind me of the work by Daniel Newman that I posted here a while back.
These images by Alinka Echeverría are just amazing! They are from a series of photos and video that she has done called Lightness of Being, which features, as you can see, stunning shots of synchronized swimmers underwater. I really love that the waterline is at the bottom of the picture - it gives a whole different perspective than one usually sees in underwater photos. Awesome! If you have a moment you should totally go to her site and watch the video - it is like the pictures, only even better - just incredible!
I absolutely adore this editorial from Cream Magazine! It was photographed by Macushla Burke, and the wonderful illustrations on top, the birds and such, are by artist KellySmith. I saw them on KnightCat and I keep going back to look at them more - they're so inspiring!
These photographs may not seem like much, until you realize that the subject is the sky at varying stages of sunset! What an awesome idea! Gorgeous too. They're by Ann Woo - check out her site here.
These pictures by Caroline De Vries are really fun! The bright colors remind me of those pictures of the Indian festival Holi that I posteda while back. Check out the rest of Caroline's work on her site.
This little editorial about shoes from French Marie Claire is so darn cute! The doggies look adorable chewing up the shoes! Though I'm sure if it was a pair of my own shoes I'd feel a bit differently... Hee hee!
This is another awesome set I saw on The Moldy Doily - unfortunately she can't recall where she found these pictures! They are so fun though - the clothes are like ultimate candyland party time! I would love to own the dress in the second picture especially. Crochet + tulle = yummy!
Do any of you happen to know off-hand where these pictures came from?
Coco+Kelley posted these amazing photographs by Julia Galdo the other day, and I keep coming back to them. Obviously the lighting is very appealing, but there is something else about them too that I really really like! Take a look around Julia's site for more lovely photography.
These interesting pieces by Daniel Newman really caught my eye! It seems like a challenge to see everything that is in the picture. See more of Daniel's work here.
I love these images by Kari Herer! How smart to mix flowers with old insect illustrations! It looks so cool! I saw these on Poppytalk, and I loved what one of her commenters said, that it makes bugs almost look romantic! So true! Be sure to check out Kari's blog too!
These crazy photoshopped pictures by Katya Ford are really appealing! I especially love the clothes that are replaced by scenes from outer space - boy I would love to have something real like that!
These photographs by Elena Kalis are so beautiful! The dress looks so delicate and light in the water! The colors are gorgeous too. Be sure to check out Elena's website - her other work is equally dreamy.
I love these pretty behind-the-scenes shots from Australian Fashion Week! I can't get the blue eyeliner underneath the middle model's eyes out of my head! I want to try it, with a number of different colors. I think it might be something I'd have to wear out at night though, not so much of a day look... What do you guys think?
I am so inspired by this project Color Me Katie created! She and her boyfriend traced themselves in various positions on black paper, cut them out and taped them up around Brooklyn! Then they waited and photographed people passing by when they matched with the shadows. What fun! Check out her blog here!
Gary Greenburg has gone all around the world and, using an Edge 3D microscope, photographed sand at 100x magnification, sometimes more. The pictures are amazing - sand generally looks basically monotone, and it's really cool to see how colorful and intricate it truly is! It makes me think about how far all the little grains have traveled and what they've been through over time... You can see the whole slideshow on Discover Magazine.

In order to get these photos, Shinichi Maruyama has to use extremely fast strobe light photography, which can capture things that happened within a 7,500th of a second! I don't think I can really wrap my mind around that one. If you look, you can see that he catches the water and ink at the moment before they mix into each other - you can see a little bit of just water and a little bit of just ink... Incredible!
just a couple of random shots from the internet world...
Okay, so there is no way I could have come up with a post for these two shots, but I just couldn't resist sharing them with you, so we have this random post!
First of all, this tax-form dress is awesome! Read more about the creator here.
That, and I'm in love with this little guy...
Isn't he sweet? Our graphic designer Kevin found this little cross-eyed Brussels Griffon on Flickr, with Keeping one eye on you as the caption. What a doll!!
I am going crazy over these pictures by Emily Scannell! They're just so so gorgeous - I love the colors! Her other work is very good too, check it out on her site.
I find these photos of an abandoned old junkyard in Switzerland really inspiring! I can't put my finger on what I like so much about the pictures, but they're just really appealing! The old cars are so beautiful, even, or maybe especially, with plants growing all over them! The whole set is really good, you can see it here.
If you're looking for a way to while away the afternoon, may I recommend Dogs Looking Like People, a little blog entirely devoted to cute pictures of dogs doing human-like things. Or sometimes just being cute. I got the above pictures from there - they just tickle me pink! Enjoy...
It's almost time for Easter, which means it's time to eat Peeps! Yum!
The Chicago Tribune has a neat slideshow of the Peeps factory that I enjoyed - you can check it out here. See a few of the shots below! (I found the cool swordfighting Peeps picture here.)
Peeps without sugar-coating look a little bit scary!
Yum...

I'm crazy about these images by Carlo Van De Roer, aren't they fabulous!? I'd love to have a giant mural of one for a wall in my living room. The feeling of these pictures is like another world!
These are from Boston.com's cool photo blog, The Big Picture. They're shots of the huge Hindu fesitival Holi, which is celebrated by, among other things, throwing colored power and water on one another! The colors are so gorgeous, and it looks like so much fun! Very spring! See more here!

Meet our latest featured Facebook friend - Samantha!
Samantha came to our attention after she posted some amazing photos that she took on her grandparents farm in North Carolina, in which she models her Pointillism Dress with the Diamond Crochet Halter Bralette. She took all the pictures herself with a timer, and had to run to get in the spot she wanted to be! They look great though! Samantha was kind enough to share the pictures with us and with you, and they are posted down below...
We also asked Samantha a few profile-type questions, just for fun! You might be surprised to learn that she is not a full time photographer, but actually a Geodetic Surveyor for an aerial mapping company. How cool is that?!
Where do you live?
Anchorage, Alaska
What do you do?
Haha, well, thats hard to explain! I'm a geodetic surveyor for an aerial mapping company. Basically, I take various data and turn them into something useful and cool to look at. I work in a field with a lot of big, gruff men so it's a bit strange for everyone that I'm this tiny girl. I don't fit the stereotype at all!
What draws you to the Free People style?
I love the patterns and designs. I really love the farmer'sdaughter collection! The styles are carefree, but well thought out. It's about loving what you put on and feeling great in it. Free People brings out the girly side of me! As a college student I wasn't concerned with what I wore and now I'm trying to break the habit of jeans and a sweatshirt everyday. I want to wear cute dresses and boots and dress them up with random pieces of jewelry!
What is your favorite article of Free People clothing?
Well, the dress in the photos is definitely my favorite- I immediately fell in love! But being in Alaska I won't get to wear it as much. :(
I wear Free People jeans nearly every day (they fit so well) as well as my navy retro puff jacket. They are my faithful standbys! I wish I could replace my whole closet, because FP style fits so well with my personality and the style of clothes I would make if I could make them myself.
Do you have any pets?
I have two tabby cats: Lucy is 3 years old and I recently got her a playmate Thomas who is 7 months (and already as big as Lucy!) I rescued Lucy from a shelter and Thomas from a foster mom. Lucy is such a trouble maker! Her favorite thing to play with are hairbands, but you have to watch her or she'll eat them. She also greatly enjoys dragging my clothes out to the food dish. I named Thomas that because we have always had orange tabby cats named Tom in my family. They were all huge and very affectionate - which he is turning out to be!
What inspires you?
I gather inspiration from a lot of things: traveling and learning, the creativity/ideas of others (I have a serious addiction to home decorating magazines), rummaging through my grandparents place for old items (I found an awesome collection of vintage buttons), and of course Free People- I find the photography as well as the clothes inspiring!
What do you do in your spare time?
In the winter time? Hibernate! The rest of the time I like fishing, camping, sea kayaking, and beach combing.
What do you like best about where you live?
Alaska is gorgeous and there is so much to do in the summertime! Summers are even better here because we get about 20 hours of daylight. In the winter the northern lights are out and they are always spectacular! Everyone should make a trip at some point in their lives to get up here- I've not met one person who didn't love it.
What do you like best about springtime?
The whole world is waking up. A few weeks ago the finches showed up at the bird feeder for the first time since winter started. I was just as excited as the cats! You can feel the energy and excitement of longer days, warmer weather, summer activities- it's time to come out of hibernation!
Hooray! Thank you Samantha! This was fun!

Running the Numbers is an interesting set of photos by photographer Chris Jordan, in which each picture has a specific quantity of a mass-consumed item. For example, one photo features fifteen million sheets of office paper (five minutes of average paper use), and another shows 106,000 aluminum cans (about thirty seconds of can consumption). As you might imagine, in real life some of these pictures are huge, like 10 feet by 25 feet! Below are a couple of shots from the set; see more here, they're amazing!
Photographer Kevin Bauman has taken pictures of 100 different abandoned houses and posted them here on the net! I love old abandoned areas, houses and such - they are so interesting and there is something about them that just makes you want to look! See them all here.

You may remember a while ago when we first got our pet-camera, and Trixie tried it out for us. The camera clips to your pet's collar and takes a picture once a minute so that you can see their view of the world! Well, today we had a new photographer try out the pet-cam for us! Meet Pilgrim, the sweet dog of Carrie, our Assistant Art Director.
Pilgrim wore the pet-cam for a while today and showed us the home office from a doggy point of view! His pictures are pretty fun, check them out below!
I love that all the lights in these pictures are hearts! Color Me Katie did it by cutting out a little heart on a piece of paper and putting it over her camera lens. I would never have thought that the outcome would be lights turned to hearts! It would be cool to try with other shapes...

Hooray for Pattra! She made the absolutely adorable little shirt that Trixie is wearing below! You may remember Pattra from previous posts, as she is a grower of Shitake mushrooms, and a creator of things, like this cute ring, Free People wovens, and of course, awesome dog shirts! Thank you Pattra! You really made my day, and Trixie's day especially!

I am obsessed with the Flickr set Plastic Life by Vincent Bousserez! There is just something so interesting about these photographs! They look half-real to me, like the little people are nearly alive. What do you think?
This cute little gal is a Jindo Dog! She is visiting the office today with one of our employees - she is going to be a gift for the employee's dad! I don't want to say who of course, since I don't want to ruin the surprise! Boy don't you just wish she was a surprise for you!?
Needless to say, being as cute as she is, she is very popular, and has made the rounds all around the building. Last I saw her she was as in the last picture - tuckered out after all the fun!

These cool photos are all pictures of the reflections in a puddle! It's such a clever idea, and now I of course am anxious to go outside and take some puddle pictures of my own! These shots are by photographer Vlado Marinkovic, and you can see the whole set, which is quite beautiful, here.

These delicious-looking candy plants are really pleasing to the eye, don't you think? I can't tell if they're photoshopped or not, what do you think? I know they're by Joachim LaPotre, but I can't find too much on his site of how he makes his photos. Either way, they sure are appealing and inspiring!
Something about these pictures is really interesting to me. They are from a set by Catherine Wagner called Homage to the Light Bulb. I really like the way all the light bulbs look together - I wonder though, how does one find all those different bulbs?
These awesome photos are by New York City photographer Sam Bassett. He seems to do more portraits than anything else, but as you can see, they are really unusual and interesting portraits! I have been wandering around his site for a chunk of this afternoon, and if you liked these pictures at all, you will definitely enjoy looking around it yourself!
Here are a few behind-the-scenes pictures from our catalog shoot that is going on right now in New York City! I am so tantalized by the flowers! I can't wait until this catalog comes out! Enjoy!

I came across this article about the modern American farmer, and saved it for the release of our Farmer's Daughter catalog. The Morning News showcases the amazing photos from Paul Mobley's book "American Farmer: The Heart of Our Country" and an interview with the photographer that spent four years exploring the people that are bringing food to our local farmer's markets.
Scroll down the blog for more entries about our latest catalog.
I love this dog hat. I love it! Trixie totally needs one. Trouble is, I can't seem to find a pattern for it anywhere! I can't even find out who made it! I found the picture on fffffound, and they claim that they found it on Apartment Therapy. However I searched all over Apartment Therapy and came up with nothing! Do any of you skilled knit and crocheters have any ideas of how one would make this hat?
Note: Thanks to reader ZombieFace, I now know where you can find the dog hat on the web! See it here, and it's Apartment Therapy page here! Thank you ZombieFace!
Additionally - while I was looking for the dog hat on Apartment Therapy, look at what I did find!
A hamburger bed! I never would have thought I'd want to sleep with lettuce and cheese sheets and a bun comforter, but actually, the hamburger bed looks pretty comfy! It really amuses me, so I wanted to share it with you!
Above is the girl who created the bed, relaxing on her design. To top it off, you can be the hamburger bed's Facebook friend, if you feel so inclined.

Mackenzie from the Free People catalog team took these beautiful images during our Farmer's Daughter shoot. Check out the catalog and read about our inspiration for the book.
Today we received something very exciting in the mail! It was a little pet-camera, which you can clip to your pet's collar so that you can see their view of the world! It takes a picture once a minute, and we had a blast today trying it out with Trixie, my chihuahua. She wore the camera for about an hour total and showed us the extremely large and low to the ground world of the chihuahua. Check out some of the pictures below!
Hehe! Next we plan to try the camera out on a larger doggy, we're not sure who yet though! I will post the results!

National Geographic recently came out with it's Best Science Images of 2008, and they are really stunning! Above are just a few of them. The first is a shot of a human immune system fighting strep throat bacteria - I would have never guessed it, it's so pretty! The second shot is a diagram showing every cross reference between chapters in the Bible. The third is little diatoms attaching to a marine invertebrate host. I love how beautiful they are, considering they are pictures of some rather humble-sounding stuff! See the whole set here.

Everyone here in Philadelphia is enjoying the annual Mummer's Parade, which is a real spectacle, and very exciting - a smaller version of Mardi Gras! Below are just a few pictures of one of the string bands.
Happy 2009 to all! Hooray!

These sweet photos came from Three Belgian Autochromists, a really cool site featuring the work of, you guessed it, three early Belgian autochromists! Autochrome is a very old way to take color pictures, used before the advent of color film. The site features the work of C. Corbett, P. Sano, and A. Van Besten, and frankly, the shots are just gorgeous. Plus, I really love getting to see pictures from as far back as 1903 in color! Do you think there are some hobbyists out there still practicing autochrome? The colors are so dreamy... See all the pictures here.

Word has it that this floating building is not photo-shopped, but is in fact real and exists in Ukraine! I'll let you decide for yourself. Still, a very cool picture, right?
It took Eric Tabuchi four years to collect the right pictures to complete this truck alphabet. Totally worth it, but I'm wondering, how did he ever find the Q? And I love the lower-case F. He's working on another truck alphabet currently, and you can see what he has gotten so far on his site.
Would you believe that each of these pictures shows part of a sewer?! The first shot is part of a sewer system near Niagara Falls, the second is the Tokyo storm drain, and the third is part of the sewer system in London. Aside from being very pretty, these pictures make me give some serious thought to the kinds of incredible structures that we have underground! You can see more pretty amazing sewers on oobject.

Recently, WWD asked a bunch of top couture designers to make some sketches for Mrs. Obama's inaugural dress. They put together a pretty big slide show of all the sketches on their site, and I have been really enjoying it! The sketches above are by, from top to bottom, Christian Lacroix, Kai Milla, and Reem Acra. I don't know how Mrs. Obama will ever pick what to wear with so many fabulous options! See the whole slide show here.
I stumbled across these works by Robin Cameron on FFFFound and I am liking them pretty much! Regular readers might not be surprised, since I generally enjoy colorful artworks! If you like them too, be sure to check out Robin's site, since she has much more of her work posted there!

We mentioned James Cooper yesterday when talking about the underwater shots from our December catalog, so we'd like to share some of his work too. Beautiful!
My favorite is the last one where it looks like some magical place between water, sky and earth. Which ones do you like??
I love these photos by Rune Guneriussen - I can't stop looking at them! The phones look like they are watching for phone predators... And the first picture is so perfect for wintertime, the lamps look so cozy and cute in the dark of winter!
See more pictures here on Livejournal, and even more on Rune's site!

Check out these awesome landscapes, made and photographed by artist Carl Warner! They are created entirely with food!
The castle is made of cheese, and the wagon wheels are mushrooms! I bet you can pick out the rest!
I love those rock-potatoes! And corn cornfields!
Mmmm.... Bread mountains.
Here is the artist at work on one of his creations!
You can see a bunch more of Carl's foodscapes right here! Special thanks to FP girl Lisa, who emailed us to make sure we saw these! Thank you so much Lisa! Great eye!

These incredible shots were taken at the Devil's Pool on Victoria Falls in Africa. In the Devil's Pool during September and December people can swim right at the edge of the top of the falls and not go over! This would be so amazing! Plus, Victoria Falls is arguably the largest waterfall in the world! What a great way to see it!
Aren't these pictures so pretty, and oozing with the Free People aesthetic? Free People girl Erica, of Santa Cruz California, went to gorgeous Wilder Ranch and took these shots of her two best friends! She was kind enough to send them our way, partly because everyone she knew commented on how "Free People-y" they looked! I agree, don't you? I especially love the one with the horse in it! Awesome!
To see the rest of the shoot, have a look here on Erica's site!
Thanks for sharing these with us Erica! They are so beautiful!

We are loving this new book by friend of Free People, Bilyana Dimitrova called To Each His Home. The book highlights eight really imaginative homes with beautiful photographs by Bilyana. Above are some sneak peak images of the book. You can see more on the website. Wouldn't you love to live in one of these?
She has also set up a flickr group where you can share photos of your own creative home! Check out the info here.
How cute is her announcement with the handwritten note?
I have been looking all afternoon for information about this house, but I can't seem to find any other than that it is in Iceland, and was photographed by Pascal Fellonneau, who has a lot of other gorgeous photos of Iceland on his site. I couldn't resist showing it to you! I'd love to live there...

I love these photos by Matthew Carden with little people figurines depicted living and working among different foods. Carden is a commercial food photographer and married to a chef. I can't explain the work much better than what's on the site, so check out the description below.
"Carden sets out in his art work to make viewers more aware of what they eat and to simply think about food as an integral part of our world. His photographs juxtapose figures with seemingly colossal broccoli, macaroons, chicken wings and the like, and speak of abundance and the ultimate waste produced on a daily basis in our land of plenty. Despite looming issues, the blurry, dreamy quality of Carden's work allows the viewer a whimsical space to enjoy the pure pleasures of food. These interesting photos are from a project called Bird & Leaf by Riitta Ikonen and Anja Schaffner. I can't put my finger on what it is that makes me like them so much. The scenery? The leaf costume? I'm not sure, but I really enjoy these. See the whole set right here.
Check out this awesome photo essay by David Friedman! He tells about it best: I shot these photos at a denim factory in Kentucky that specializes in distressing high-end jeans for a few top designers. I used to scoff at paying a premium for jeans that come with holes in them already. Then I saw just how much work goes into distressing jeans, and I realized that these people are artists. You can’t just have any loose threads, you have to have the right loose threads. They can’t just be faded. They have to be the right color. A lot of work goes into making these jeans look just right.
I put my favorite shots below - click here to see the whole essay on David's blog!

Apparently these awesome self-portrait photos by Sam Taylor-Wood are actually from about four years ago, but I just found them on WeHeartIt! Aren't they just so cool? There is an interesting, though probably also a little old, article about her here on the Telegraph.

I found James Spicer's work on Poppytalk Handmade, and boy am I glad I did! I could look at the pictures he takes for hours! I really love all the work with miniatures, and the colors that seem to predominate are fabulous. It would be nice to find myself in his mini world for a while. You should have a look at his blog too - his series "Today's Look Through the Viewfinder" is going to keep me coming back.
See James' shop on Poppytalk to buy prints!

Thanks in part to HI+LOW, who found it, I have been combing the archives of Record Envelope all afternoon. It's basically just tons and tons of pictures of old record sleeves - which it turns out is pretty interesting. The graphics are total eye-candy. Check it out!

Our knit designer Melissa took a trip to Niagara Falls over Labor Day weekend, and she took some gorgeous pictures!
The first few are from a canoe trip where they saw a swan nest. The swans ended up joining them in the water!
These hot air balloons were in a valley on the drive to Rochester. There were maybe 15 of them!
Niagara Falls, on the Canadian side. Amazing!

I'm loving the Polaroid Project, polaroids taken in NYC by photographer Porter Hovey. The light and colors are always so beautiful in polaroids, and I love the idea of instantly capturing a little piece of your everyday life. Seeing the images also makes me want to stop and take a better look at what's happening around me!
I've been a little obsessed with postcards that have state maps on them for a while now. They're pretty appealing looking, right? I had been looking for them on Google image search, with some luck, but not tons. Today, I am totally pumped, because I found this Flickr set, which is all map postcards! It's an impressive collection with some colorful eye-candy!
