We’re getting sick of pants. All winter long its pants, pants, pants. Now, in the name of fashion, we’re rebelling. We’re pulling on tights for an extra layer, and getting out stowed away women’s shorts, skirts and dresses. For the last week in January “vs.” office style, I want to know – which winter rebellion look do you like best? It’s the shorts vs. the dresses….
This January, we traveled to Palm Springs, CA to shoot our lookbook with Alexandra Spencer of 4th and Bleeker. In the book, she takes on the look of a domesticated 70’s wild child as she hangs by the pool and goes about her day in a 70’s ranch style home. The looks are filled with stacked sandals, flowing bohemian prints and ditzy patterns elevated with hard-edged suede, sequins, and funky shades. There’s no doubt this woman is beautifully Free People. Which look is your favorite?

The fp one flock dot house slip is one of our new favorites… throw it on over a little black bodycon or a tank and shorts.
It’s no secret that as a brand, Free People has a little infatuation with tribal prints. Right now there are a whole slew of them on our website – popping up in fun and creative ways. I would happily add any of these to my closet, but which is your favorite way to rock ethnic prints? Bathing suit, head band, shorts….you tell us!
(p.s. if you like this trend you should definitely check out our Urban Safari feature in accessories right now!)
I don’t think I’ve used anything other than standard hair ties for ponytails since I got rid of my (extensive) collection of scrunchies, so when I saw that we were getting all of these cute ponytail cuffs in, I was really excited for a fresh take on the ponytail. It’s my go-to hair style, but it gets so boring… I am all about these cute cuffs, especially the brightly colored cut-out geometric cuff and the suede lasso pony holder! They are such a great way to add a little unexpected pop of color or texture. We had some fun trying them on today – what do you guys think, are you into this trend?
In line with our catalog theme this month, I thought I would do some fun vs. themed office styles. Our home office has a surprisingly bountiful population of Brits who’ve crossed the big pond to work for Free People. They all have great style, so I thought that for this week I would do British vs. American style. I love them both, but tell us, which do you relate to more??
Welsh sisters! Both wearing an FP intimates top. Shop the updated version here.
If you look at our accessories collection online right now, you’re sure to notice a trend – we’ve gone crazy for bracelets! This season we are all about piling up the wrists with wrap bracelets, friendship bracelets, charm bracelets and cuffs. What I love about this trend is that you can literally wear your personality on your sleeve – fashion sense, friendships and meaningful symbols are all on display, and the combinations are endless and always somehow work.
Chelsea Beaded Bracelet, Lizzie Stone Ring, Studded Zip Clutch coming mid-January. Other bracelet is a store-only style – get it at your local Free People!
The color blue sometimes gets a bad rap. It can be associated with feelings of sadness. Perhaps the cold winter has you “feeling blue.” Well, there’s nothing depressing about our Blue Hues collection on the website. Some of the hottest FP pieces fall into the category, and contrary to the color’s reputation, they’re quite fun and uplifting to wear. This is one cool color for apparel. Which is your favorite piece in the pretty hue?
The Free People girl is not one to shy away from a statement. She’s bold, she takes up a lot of room, and she’s not afraid of color. She likes to push the limits, and that’s exactly why we have the most amazing collection of printed voluminous pants on the site right now. These pieces flip the rules on their head, and draw attention to the bottom half of an outfit. A few, with their flower child bohemian vibe, live in the Nouveau Boho trend while others are funky and psychedelic. We’re loving the can’t-miss-it look. Publications are always telling us which colors to wear. Are we calling it nude or blush this season? Open up a magazine, and you’ll see how neons are all the rage. We’re color obsessed! One of the most fun things to do is experiment with color. We’ve been doing exactly that here at Free People which has led us to settle on color POPS as our must have look this season. We love pairing these bright hues back to neutrals – dusty pinks, elephant grey, black and white –letting them make their statement, and grabbing the eye. My question for all of you is – which piece will you be popping?
