Quick Trick: Remove Salt Stains From Leather Boots

What a beautiful thing snow is. Those soft white crystals fall from the sky, silently forming a blanket atop the earth. To this day I still marvel at the sight of it. But with the fall of snow, comes the addition of salt. Read More

Details: Quirky & Cool

I love quirky little details… today I kept noticing little things that made an outfit unique, like a little bit of leather on a denim shirt, pairing a vintage tee with a sequin vest, adding suspenders to the basic denim and tee, statement collar necklaces, striped denim and leopard, neon bracelets – you name it, our FP girls are rocking it.

Dress down the fitted with daisies dress with a cool denim shirt.

The casbah necklace looks awesome with collared shirts!

You can find the neon bracelets in our stores!

New Free People Vegan Leather has Arrived!

I have a lot of Free People in my closet, but one of the best FP purchases I’ve ever made was hands down my vegan leather jacket. It looks like real leather (in fact, most people think it is), its comfy, fits well, goes with everything and is still in great shape, despite being worn quite frequently. I was thrilled to hear that we’d be continuing with vegan leather, and some new product just arrived on our site that is to die for! We’ve got something for every girl – a new hooded vegan leather jacket, a smocked vegan leather dress, new vegan leather shorts in a washed pink color, a vegan leather bustier, and old favorites like the pleated vegan leather skirt are back. Check out some styling inspiration from our store girls below, and then play it cool and check out the new vegan leather on our website!

From left: toughen up a slip with the washed vegan leather short and fedora; throw on the double breasted vegan leather jacket over the lace stripes maxi dress; wear the cap sleeve gypsy lace dress in cold weather with tights, a cami and the same vegan leather jacket in gray; try an unexpected pairing with an airy blouse and vegan leather shorts.

Forget the l.b.d. (for now) – this spring we love little white dresses like the fitted with daisies dress, paired with vegan leather jackets!

On my wishlist: the embellished vegan leather motorcycle jacket.

Such a cute look! Pair the high waisted textured short with tights, a cute tank and vegan leather jacket.

A more summery look with the washed vegan leather short, crochet bell sleeve top, sheer maxi bed jacket and sandals.

Get this cool urban look with the fp one pacific trails pant, imagine me graphic tee, floppy hat and vegan leather jacket.

How freaking cool is the vegan leather bustier?!?

It looks awesome over a slip, like the delphine mesh skirt!

Here the  vegan leather bustier is worn over the flock dot house slip, with the ruffle legging and tomorrow today shirt. Adorable!

Super cute in the crochet short, stripe boy tee and vegan leather buttondown.

Love this boho look with the washed vegan leather short, diamond crochet tunic, tights, the caballero ankle boot and some cute flower hair accessories (coming soon!).

You can’t go wrong with the flock dot house slip, tights and embellished vegan leather motorcycle jacket!

The long sleeved embellished party dress and double breasted vegan leather jacket.

And last but not least, stop traffic in the amazing vegan-leather trimmed cage shift dress, western buttondown and embellished vegan leather motorcycle jacket.

Store Style: NY & LA, Part 2

Here is part two of store style featuring our lovely New York girls!

“And love won’t play any games with you
Anymore if you don’t want ’em to
The world won’t wait and I watched you shake
But honey, I don’t blame you
Hell, I still love you, New York”

– Ryan Adams

The sequin button down is perfect for a night out on the town!

The seamless texture top looks too adorable under the velvet overalls.

How cool are these two? Get the look: vintage tee worn over a sequin skirt or striped dress, vegan leather buttondown and ankle boots!

A similar look, with a vintage tee worn over the scallop lace tube dress with the printed kimono. So cool!

The ankle crop colored skinny jean, marled yarn pullover and sugar mountain ankle boot.

I love everything about this – the reverse it kachow thermal with a seamless layering top underneath, vintage wash straight leg denim, flannel and killer boots.

Such a cute layered look with the fp skinny cord, sequin cami, anita faux fur jacket and beaded necklace scarf.

The costas striped maxi dress looks super cool with the marled yarn pullover on top!

On the left, get a sophisticated look with the extreme flares by adding a button-down shirt, sweater and fedora. On the right, model off duty Brooke Nesbitt spotted in our chevron sweater dress!

From left to right – the printed kimono looks awesome layered under a thick cardigan; vegan leather to the max with the pleated skirt (coming back in stock soon!), lace button down, vegan leather jacket, and beaded necklace scarf (how cute does it look tied in a bow?!); and another vegan leather jacket on the right.

Lastly, get this awesome look with the medallion seamless slip, flannel and vegan leather buttondown.

Details: Grunge

Here at the home office we have completely embraced the grunge trend. I think it’s the time of year, chilly weather and the upcoming holidays lend themselves to comfy layering tinged with cool grunge elements – think ripped tees, vests, cozy flannel & thermals, tights & denim and the ever-present beanie. It’s all in the details…

The tattered flag scarf looks awesome over denim and stripes.

I love how our designer paired the floral chambray overall with a delicate blouse – and I especially love that slightly tattered cuff detail!

Ruby’s got her old grunge sweater on too!

The vegan leather shirt looks so cool with a denim jacket.

We love doc martens!

Get the look with a vintage tee and vegan leather vest.

I <3 the painted distressed boot.

FP denim cutoffs and intarsia leggings.

The striped lovebug thermal looks cute under a hoodie vest.

Another fp denim cutoff sighting in a lighter wash.

And not really grunge, but her nails and accessories were too good not to share!

Style File: Merchandising Intern

Fresh out of college, our merchandising intern here at the office has sleek, cool-girl style. She pulls looks together with the ease of an off-duty model – rarely sporting color, and rocking a repertoire of easy tees, skinny jeans, ankle boots, and leather. Tattoos pepper her body with an added edge that’s subtle, but present. Behind all that seriousness is a sweet girl ready to ask you how your weekend was and share a funny story behind the pieces she’s wearing. Seeing her outfit each day was an excitement – I hope it you all think so too!

July Lookbook: Behind The Scenes With Bambi Northwood-Blyth

Our july lookbook features one of our favorite fashion icons, Australian model Bambi Northwood-Blyth! She is such a joy to be around – from her endearing accent to her magnetic charm, we all fell in love with her. For our july lookbook she showcases our pre-fall collection full of layering essentials like leather, denim, crochet, tights, bed jackets and sheer fabrics. Here’s a peek behind the scenes!

Bambi told us the story behind her cute ankle tattoo: she and her boyfriend were traveling together and got beaded anklets that read “dan and bambi.” She decided to get a tattoo of the anklet so that she would always have it :)

recycled material bags – we love!

with earth day literally just around the corner, i felt that the timing was perfect to tell you guys about some special bags we’re carrying right now that are made out of recycled materials.  not only are these bags gorgeous, but you can take comfort in knowing that they are crafted out of repurposed items like vintage military bags, vintage fabrics and old leather jackets.

the gorgeous belmont backpack by ashley watson is my favorite.  the vancouver based designer draws her inspiration from leather jackets she finds in thrift stores, and each bag is crafted from recycled leather jackets, incorporating features like pockets and seams to make them unique and special. the leather is perfectly worn and soft, carrying with it a history all its own.

i fell in love with both of these bags by foley and corinna when i saw them on sasha pivovarova in our april catalog, but i love them even more now that i know they are made from recycled and vintage materials.  dana foley and anna corinna met when they both had booths at the chelsea art and antique market in 1998 – dana sold her original creations and anna sold vintage clothing.  they joined together and started designing pieces that were both original and incorporated vintage elements.  the musette satchel is made of vintage military bags with delicate, hand-crocheted fringe, and the bora hobo is made of varying, colorful found fabrics so they are each one-of-a-kind.

this fanny pack is another favorite, by artists and revolutionaries – an organic and eco-friendly label based in brooklyn.  their philosophy is “to create unique handcrafted items, using eco-friendly materials and processes.” like the designers above, they use repurposed and up-cycled materials in addition to hemp and organic cottons.  the fanny pack is made of repurposed vintage leather and has unique details like buttons and pockets, and a braided belt buckle strap.
