2011: A Look Back

Our catalog team traveled around the world…

…and us bloggers got to go to our shoot with Sasha Pivovarova in NYC – definitely a highlight of the year!

We worked with so many beautiful models…

We debuted FP Spun and Vegan Leather, and launched a special line of Limited Edition Dresses! We celebrated with pop-up shops in NY and LA, where Jade Castrinos performed at our store.

We fell hard for extreme flares, monochromatic dressing, birkenstocks, turbans, sweater dressing, fancy collars, western boots, friendship bracelets and bright nails, flatforms, mixed prints, color pops, polka dots and more…

We were influenced by decades past…

…and by trends like mod and grunge.

We brought you festival coverage from Pitchfork and Outside Lands

We shot our July catalog with Alexandra Valenti and the Happen-Ins, and we had such a great time we went back and threw a party to celebrate the catalog release! We also threw a party at our 5th ave store for Fashion’s Night Out and had a blast.

We made so many lovely blogger friends!

Many crafts were made, and we held our first crafting events in Cambridge and NYC!

And, some new furry faces popped up in the office :)

2011 was a good year :) Here’s to making the next one even better!

Happy New Year!

As many of you should know by now, today is the launch of our much awaited bicoastal NYC & LA pop-up shops. Last night we held a little preview event for friends, bloggers, & media at both locations. I was lucky enough to help organize the whole thing and attend the NYC event. I was working of course, but this is the kind of thing I’ve always dreamt of getting the chance to do. We had RSVP’s from editors I’ve watched creep up masthead ranks, and bloggers who inspire me on the regular. Working for a brand, that my heart is truly invested in, I just couldn’t wait to share it with them. I was nervous though. Was I going to say all of the right things, and forge a connection between Free People and these important figures?

The cupcakes & wine were set. Goodie bags were in place. I smoothed a red coat of confidence across my lips and watched the door as attendees began to trickle in. As soon as I greeted the first to arrive, Claire Geist from Delune Blog, my nerves evaporated. A warm calm of “I got this” washed over me. I was there to represent the brand, but I was also there to just be myself, and had a blast. I cracked jokes with Natalie Suarez and Christina Caradona who apparently has something of a Kanye crush (Kanye – if you’re reading this, I highly suggest dropping the woman a line). I connected with Karen of Wheredidyougetthat over the beauty of individual interpretation in fashion, and specifically the creative freedom that Free People possess to inspire it. She had a calm insightful point of view that stirred up my thoughts – which is exactly the kind of conversation I live for. Lastly, I finally got to meet Erica & Lauren of Honestly…WTF who we’ve worked with before, but I’ve never gotten the chance to meet myself. They’re both intelligent women with such cool energies about them. You can’t help but notice that you’re in the presence of a rare kind of special person when you’re with them.

The gowns looked beautiful and at the end of the night I was content. I loved talking about the brand and getting Free People’s beauty out there. It was a night of meeting new people, partaking in interesting conversations, and celebrating fashion – exactly what I’ve always wanted for my future.

Now somebody pinch me. Nobody gets their dreams this young…

Once… Pop-Up Shops

Our limited edition dresses have launched online and in our special pop-up shops! The Pop-Up shops are at our Brentwood, CA and 5th Ave, NYC stores through Sunday and we held special preview parties at both stores last night. Here are some photos of the beautiful pop-up shops that our visual display team designed, the lovely ladies who attended the events, and of course the magical gowns!

Once…in Los Angeles

In LA we had a photo booth set up so attendees could try on the dresses and have their photos taken. They all looked amazing!

The dresses are now available online or you can see them in person at the two pop-up shops through Sunday 11/13!

Finally, we had a very special performance at our Brentwood store last night – Jade Castrinos performed solo for the very first time and she was amazing. Here’s one of the songs from her intimate set.

What a magical night, from coast to coast!

FP Limited Edition Dresses: Coming Tomorrow!!

They’re almost here!!! Our special limited edition dresses will launch tomorrow and I can’t wait to show them to you :) Here’s a sneak peek at dress number five.  I’ll give you a peek at the last dress later today before we reveal them tomorrow and open up our pop-up shops in Brentwood and 5th ave, NYC!

Once…the Countdown Begins

Pssst… In one week we are launching a collection of limited edition dresses that consists of six magical gowns dreamed up and hand crafted by the lead designers at Free People.

We will be launching the dresses with pop-up shops that will appear in our Brentwood and 5th Avenue stores on November 10th for a special three-day viewing experience that will leave you with sparkles in your eyes.  But don’t worry if you don’t live in NY or LA because they’ll be online for you all to see a week from today!

Each day until then, I will share a special sneak peek of each dress, with one word that each designer chose to describe it, before we reveal the final pieces.

A girl became a star, and for the night she shone the brightest light,
She became a magical attraction that was breathtaking.
A shooting star that will never be forgotten.
