Trend Spotting: Abbey Lee

Abbey Lee is running through our minds a bit too much lately and with the launch of our Baroque trend, which is full of rich velvets, clashing textures, and beautiful jewel tones, we thought why not experiment with some looks up in the studio. We printed out some inspiration tears and got styling; here are our Abbey Lee looks!

We love Abbey Lee, and we love our new trend Baroque!

Trend Spotting: 1920’s Je t’aime Pari

If I had a time machine I would go back to the Birth of Bohemian Paris Just like Gil (Owen Wilson) did in Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris.
Reeling from the folly of World War I, Paris was the centre of the artistic universe then. Bohemians were exquisite and romantic – it was an elegant soiree, with artists and writers holding a passion that was so intense it created magic. 1920’s Paris is my era of love. I would trade anything to go back and spend some time with Surrealists in Montparnasse!

Trend Spotting: Fairisle

Fairisle is one of those words that awakens certain senses… it symbolizes chilly weather, playing in the snow and bundling up by a fire to warm your bones,  crisp air and red cheeks.

I never knew this, but fairisle is named after a small island in northern Scotland. The traditional knitting technique uses multiple colors to create the signature fairisle patterns, and first gained popularity when worn by the Prince of Wales in the early 1920s. Today its one of our favorite patterns for knitwear and we love it in all different forms – sweaters, leggings, socks, bags, you name it – it adds pattern, color and a touch of coziness to a basic outfit.

Here’s how some of us are rocking fairisle in the Free People office!

We love this cropped pullover to pieces! It’s the perfect sweater to throw on over a tank and jeans all fall and winter long.

I had to get a close-up of these amazing studded ankle boots too!

We’re dying over the new colors in the Pocono sweater leggings – These have snow day written all over them :)

Add some color to your outfit with a fairisle bag like the Peruvian ski satchel!

Lastly, this fairisle tunic is amazing! Just throw it on over some tights and boots, and you’re set!

Trend Spotting: Turban Fashion

I’m all over the turban accessory trend that was so endearing during the 40’s and 70’s. Its now making a huge come back – on the streets, on the runways and in editorials.  I cannot get enough of this accessory that’s reminiscent of an Arabian night. The look is now surprisingly wearable given the vast interpretations that are being created.

The turban adds a touch of quirky-ness to your every day look; it can be dressed down with a tee and jeans of worn for a lovely night out with your favorite dress. It’s a cool accessory for a wear now and also to carry into Fall.
