I’ll speak for myself here – feel good music comes in heavy rotation during the holiday seasons. Tunes that strum in and out of my ears are those that bring deep seeded feelings of love and nostalgia, of friendship and little moments that make life sing with thankful memories. i recently discovered beck’s record club and i think the whole premise behind it is pretty awesome. the record club is an informal meeting of musicians who come together to record an album in a day. they have done albums by the velvet underground, leonard cohen, inxs and even yanni. the results are pretty great- and they post a video of them recording the tracks once a week. they are rough renditions, often first takes, which i think makes it even cooler.
here’s one of my favorites, from the songs of leonard cohen, with a group that includes Devendra Banhart, Ben, Andrew and Will from MGMT, Andrew from Wolfmother, Binki Shapiro from Little Joy and Beck.
interesting note- this album was picked by andrew of MGMT, and their second choice was ace of base. can you imagine how that would sound?

dj mama on the turntables – too cute not to share. happy friday!
