There will be refreshments to follow…and of course time to SHOP!
Fall is creeping in, bringing with it crisper air, crunchy leaves and sweater season! We love the trend of sweater dressing from head-to-toe, outfitting yourself in bulky knits, cozy leggings, cute little sweater shorts and trading in summery maxis and rompers for sweater maxis and overalls. Our senior photographer captured some great sweater dressing street style inspiration right here at the Navy Yard!
I could live in the Americana Sweater Jumper all fall and winter long! It looks awesome over a seamless layering top with boots.
During every fashion week the streets come alive with bright colours, glorious prints and rich textures. The sidewalks come alive and show respect to high fashion. We headed to Lincoln centre to see what we could capture; here are some of our best shots of the day!
The location of our September catalog shoot set the mood perfectly – an 18th century Germanic house-mill called Oswald’s Mill, located in the Penn Dutch country of New Tripoli PA, it is the only known integrally built house-mill in the US. The house is furnished but has a ghostly feel, as if a family was living there years ago and one day just up and left, leaving everything behind. The decor has a colonial, early American feel that adds to the romance and intrigue of this book.
check out these bath tubs!
I would love to go exploring there. View our complete September catalog!

Lovely! It's pictures like these that make me want to move back east again :)
The weather could not have been better today at Outside Lands! Uncharacteristically, the sun was shining all day and burned through the San Francisco fog. Also? Free People was everywhere! We ran into so many girls wearing FP duds and carrying our tote bags. Here’s a look at the fashion on day two shot by Erin of calivintage.com!
The striped lace inset top from last year!
Love this combo of leopard, fringe and our seed bead necklace.
Tons of good fashion inspiration around the office today! From killer gladiator-style shorts to kooky sweaters and pretty prairie dresses I was deeply impressed. What’s your favorite look from the Free People team was wearing today?

Ooh, I love all these looks! What a fun staff you guys are :-)
Do you ever have a day where you don’t spend any money? For myself, it’s pretty rare, but when it does happen, I feel so fulfilled. Without money you have to think more. You have to cook for yourself, make your own coffee, and enjoy the people around you.
It’s not realistic to do every day, but for today, don’t spend a cent. You’ll notice those areas in life where you are spending frivolously, and you can learn from it to make some small changes in your daily habits. Perhaps you start bringing your lunch to work 3 days a week? Or, you ride your bike instead of taking the subway on weekends? In the long run, those few dollars saved will help you buy that big ticket item you’ve been dreaming about…wouldn’t you rather have that than a store-bought hoagie?

I really enjoy this blog, it's a lot of fun and very inspiring. However, it's the only part of Free People that I associate with anymore. I've always justified FP's prices one way or another. Better quality, more detail, hand crafted, unique, but recently the prices have become extreme. I can't even afford a t-shirt anymore. :(

How interesting are our differing lifestyles. I don't spend money more than 1--2 days per week, and that includes for gasoline!
On Tuesday you all got an introduction to our new capsule collection: FP Spun. In general, I’m a big fan of Free People’s crochet and knit pieces, so word of this collection got me very excited. The pieces are all crocheted or knit with elegant Italian yarns, shiny silk blends, or nubbed soft linens. Seeing the final results, I’m awed – every piece is a masterpiece. I think I know which my favorite is, but what do you all think?
Office style this week was quite eclectic, it looked like people here at the office had done some travelling and picked up beautiful items from around the world. Very inspirational.
I especially adored our New Romantics designer’s print, which looked like it had come from Hawaii, and all the cool accessories especially that giant healing gem. Just another day at the office of Free People.

Hey Linda, the Hawaiian print outfit is actually vintage.

how do you go on to a previous page of the blog, i don't see that option anymore?
Yesterday was such a lovely day. the temperature had dropped a little from last week’s heat wave, and there was a cool breeze in the air making us all dreamy. Light crochet piece wear, great cover ups and fun jeans were perfect for the ideal weather.
While our buyer and lingerie designer wore the perfect cover-ups – a chiffon button up shirt tunic and a one shoulder dress.
It was sure a day dreaming day at the office yesterday!

I don’t personally follow a gluten-free diet, but I have friends who do, so I like to mess around with recipes once in a while. This nut bread is one I’ve been wanting to try for a while. Normally, the thought of making bread kind of scares me a little. I feel like you need skills I’ve never tried out before, but with this bread it turned out the toughest part was gathering all of the obscure ingredients I needed to make it gluten-free. Once I finally got around to making it, it turned out to be nutty and delicious. It works great for toast in the morning with a little bit of jam =)
Ingredients:
1 ½ cups almond flour
¾ cup arrowroot powder
¼ cup flax seed meal
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon baking soda
4 eggs
1 teaspoon agave nectar
1 teaspoonapple cider vinegar
¼ cup walnuts, coarsely chopped
¼ cup hazelnuts, coarsely chopped
½ cup pistachios, coarsely chopped
¼ cup pumpkin seeds
¼ cup sunflower seeds
¼ cup sesame seeds
Instructions:
Chop up all nuts that need to be coarsely chopped, and mix all seeds/nuts in a small bowl.
Combine almond flour, arrowroot powder, flaxseed meal, salt, and baking soda in a medium bowl.
In a large bowl, beat eggs well. Then add agave nectar and apple cider vinegar.
Slowly mix dry ingredients into wet.
Stir in nut/seed mixture
Pour into a well-greased 7.5” x 3.5” bread pan
Bake for about 35 minutes. (You should be able to stick a toothpick/knife into the center and pull it out cleanly.)
