in april 2010 our catalog team went to california to shoot our first wholesale catalog, and then road tripped to dolores, colorado to shoot our july catalog at the beautiful dunton hot springs. our wonderful producer put together this travel diary of their journey.

what is everyone doing for the 4th of july weekend?
the nateva camping and music festival starts today in oxford, maine with artists including furthur, the flaming lips, she & him, passion pit and grizzly bear – sounds like a great time. and if you’re in philly, the annual free concert on the parkway takes place on sunday night.
we’re out at noon today and i’m heading to the beach!!! can’t wait…i’ll be posting throughout the weekend so don’t worry! :)

say hello to two of our sweet and adorable interns, carolina and nicole! they are going into their senior year of high school and have spent the last two weeks interning here at free people. these best friends had a unique and exciting internship that allowed them to experience several departments here at the home office. i spent a little time with them today to talk about their experience!
what was your favorite part of your internship here?
both: being in the photo studio! watching the stylists at work and seeing the models was really exciting.
nicole: i actually loved hanging up all the clothes when they were finished shooting with them! i loved getting to see all the beautiful clothing up close.
carolina: it’s been amazing, we’ll never get an experience like this again!
both: spending time with the designers was really cool too because we got to see just how much they do! they showed us items online that they had designed and you never really think about that, it’s crazy. we’re not the most talented with our hands and we tried to sew a sweater – it was a disaster.

what is your dream job?
carolina: after this experience, i think i would love to be a designer or a buyer.
nicole: i would definitely want to be a stylist or buyer if i worked for a clothing company, but my dream has always been to be a doctor!

nicole: i’m definitely lou during the day and ginger at night!
carolina: i think a little bit of all of them, except for lou.
nicole: you’re a mix of candy and ginger for sure :)
what is your favorite free people item?
nicole: i am completely obsessed with the coachella boots (pictured below on candy). they’re all i can think about. my dad finally agreed to get them for me as an early birthday present and i am SO excited!
carolina: i love the green motorcuff thermal (pictured below on lou)! but i want every color, i’d wear them all the time.

some of our fp girls have just returned from overseas where they were shooting an upcoming catalog and doing some shopping and style spotting! check out these great pics our creative design assistant snapped…
the chiffon and lace slip dress is without a doubt one of our most versatile items. it’s all about the layering and how you style it – and fortunately we have the girls of free people highland park to offer up some fabulous ideas! (you may remember these very same girls showing multiple ways to wear the ruffle bottom slip not too long ago!)
wear it over the ruffle up solid tunic to get a cute “little black dress” look! accessorized here with the reese woven leather belt and peacock charm necklace.
dress it down over the fp lightweight super skinny jeans and calluna lace tank, with the linked leather stretch belt over top.
doesn’t it look adorable with the floral peeking through the lace??
this might be my favorite – worn over skinny jeans with the we the free tiger’s eye tunic over top. such a great idea!
on the left – get a more boyish look with skinny jeans and we the free graphic tee underneath.
on the right – get girly with a printed mini under the slip and the medallion tunic over top.
another amazing idea! throw it over the new crinkle floral dress for a totally unique look!
and last but certainly not least – the slip adds cute femininity to cargo shorts and the short sleeve scoop front tunic!
