our august catalog has some beautiful accessories. they all look so special and unique and complement the outfits perfectly. which of these is your favorite?
when our team returned from morocco after shooting our latest catalog and shared all of their photos, i was completely blown away. the desert setting in the photos almost looked unreal – like something out of a dream. their experience shooting this book must have been incredible and these behind the scenes photos give you a glimpse of what it was like…
our team flew into marrakesh, and from there they traveled to morocco’s “hollywood town” of ouarzazate. they then drove seven hours into the desert, arriving in the dark of night. when they woke up, this is what they saw:
they had the option of sleeping in the tents, or outside!
the dressing room.
clothing takes over…

when i was at a.c. moore the other day getting supplies for my hair wrap, i saw a DIY dream catcher kit and i couldn’t resist. i never realized how easy they are to make! you don’t even need the kit- you can find whatever supplies you want to make your own personalized dream catcher at an arts and crafts store or around the house!
what you need:
– a ring of whatever size you’d like – it could be metal, plastic, wood – whatever :)
– suede lace or thin strips of fabric
– artificial sinew (the yellow thread) – this is what came in the kit, but i feel like regular string would work too.
– feathers, beads and any other little trinkets you want to add!
wind the suede lace around the metal ring.
when you get all the way around, tie the ends together in a knot:
i left a little bit of extra lace at each end so i could use that to hang it from something.
take the string and knot it at your starting point, and then start looping it around the metal ring as seen in the photo. when you get all the way around the outside, start looping it around itself, and keep going till you get to the center:
now start adding your little trinkets! the kit came with the suede piece at the top, but it’s definitely not necessary. i put a little silver feather on the inside, and used the leftover suede lace to attach beads and feathers at the bottom. i tied the feathers to the lace with the string, but there’s probably a better way to do that :)
i love the end result! it’s a very nice addition to my workspace.
and now i’m already thinking about what i want my next dream catcher to look like! i think it would look really cool to make one with thinly cut strips of fabric – maybe from old free people bags!? or an all-natural one, using a stick for the ring, hemp and decorated with leaves, feathers and dried flowers…yep, done.
our sweet and talented creative team intern is leaving us to go off to college. she will be missed – here are some photos from her goodbye party. ice cream sandwiches and root beer floats YUM!
and in case you missed them, check out the posts mallie did for the blog, here, here and here – they’re beautiful!
our august catalog is here! i’ve already told you about two of the models in this book, klara wester and hind sahli, but i failed to mention the other model – the camel!
our team named the beautiful “free people” camel who graces the cover and pages of our catalog janis joplin :)
i think the name suits her, don’t you?
the reason they thought to call her that is because the other two camels, who our team got to ride, were named jimi hendrix and bob marley!
i believe that’s jimi on the left and bob on the right :)
the urban outfitters interns organized a pop up shop over in building 543 today – they had apparel, accessories and stuff for the home at really low prices, sort of like the sample sales that we have for employees every once and a while. all proceeds are going to bike works. i think they did a great job and i scored some awesome finds! here are a few pics…
here are the items i picked up:
they match perfectly! unintentional :) i kindof want to wear the above four items together is that wierd?
i saw the black keys this past friday night at great plaza at penn’s landing in philly. i got there right as they went onstage and by then the venue was packed – my one complaint about this venue is that if you get there late, you will not be able to see the stage. it’s a great spot though, right on the river, and it was a beautiful night! the next show i’m going to at great plaza is my morning jacket and i will be sure to get there early for that one :)
the best part of the show for me was the beginning – they opened with “thickfreakness,” “girl is on my mind” and “10 a.m. automatic,” all awesome songs. they played a lot from their new album too and it sounded great!
this friday is local natives at first unitarian church yay!
The sales have hit the stores and the Fall collections are slowly creeping in, already?! Yup I know!
It’s rather exciting though, I really like it when the transition time in fashion comes around. You can start fresh and experiment with new looks.
This weekend I fondled the runway shows to see what was cooking on the trends department. There’s a couple of key looks happening for Fall but the two that I’m liking the most are the “man up” look and the “Long View” as categorized by style.com
The sound of light weight, slightly oversized silk, satin and chiffon shirts combined with blazers, cardigans, waisted belts and the MUST HAVE for FALL long mesh or chiffon skirts.
Girls are going crazy over the maxi skirts and I’m one of them. They give a very elegant silhouette that I’m somewhat addicted to.
Below are some of the lovely skirts that are available at Free People and the looks the designers are running down the runway.
