our vintage buyer found a stack of adorable vintage valentines at a flea market recently, and our graphic designers made them into little valentines that you can print out and use! she told me that vintage valentine cards are difficult to find and very expensive- and it is not known who many of them are designed by.

valentine’s day was not always a loving and romantic day, and early valentines were actually intended to be mean and insulting – called “penny meanies” – and were sent unsigned.  by the early 19th century the practice of sending more sentimental valentines grew in popularity, and the ones above are from the early 20th century. i think its so interesting to see how valentines have evolved…the vintage ones are so sweet and innocent compared to some of the racier ones we see today!

Even here in Bangkok, valentine’s day is a huge thing for us, I guess it is universal now due to the globalized world we are living in. I never knew that valentines used to be intended as a mean and insulting, thanks for this interesting knowledge :)

Am I just grumpy and getting old when I think that Valentines day is made to sell more stuff, and that is so much more romantic to get flowers any other day…? My boyfriend was easily convinced that this was a good idea:)
