wednes-diy: rope swirl tapestries

a few of you have asked about the amazing rope swirl tapestries in our new store displays and you’re in luck because one of our display artists put together a tutorial on how to make them! it looks like such a fun rainy day project.

what you need: a large piece of cardboard,  black marker, scissors, rope in various sizes and colors, neon twine, pompoms.

A photo diary from Australia Fashion Week

We reached out to Mandy, our blogger friend at Oracle Fox, to guest blog for Free People from Australia Fashion Week. I was super excited that she was willing to do this for us, as it’s one of my favorite fashion weeks around, and we knew she would do a stellar job documenting it!

She documented the scene of great fashion and the beautiful relaxed lifestyle Australia has to offer. Here’s round 1 of her favorite shows. If you could go to any fashion week which one would you choose? Mine would definitely be Australia.

“The styling at the Miss Unkon show was spectacular!! I loved the beautiful earth tone colour palette and the way the show was accessorized with long delicate necklaces, tribal braiding and incredible body art!”

“I love this shot of Ivan Rodic taking Nicole from Gary Pepper Vintage’s picture, I think this piccies sums up the whole Australian fashion week vibe…amazing street photographer-check, amazing fashion blogger-check, amazing style-check, opera house-check”

Grilled Cheese?

I was raised in an Italian family with real Italian cooks, so I have a tendency give anything an Italian spin in the kitchen. Hence this week’s recipe – my favorite grilled cheese sandwich – is nothing short of delicioso. It’s crazy easy to make and tastes just as good as any fancy Panini.

Ingredients:

2 Slices of bread (I like wholegrain, but if you want the traditional thing, go for ciabatta bread)

1tbsp Pesto

1 Canned artichoke – quartered

1 roasted red pepper – cut into 3 pieces

2 slices of fresh mozzarella (Mozzarella is traditional, but I didn’t have any when I made the sandwich, so I substituted a blend of jack cheeses. You can experiment with whatever cheeses you like. I highly recommend it.)

Spread pesto on both halves of your bread

005

Place roasted red pepper on one half

006

Place artichoke pieces on top of the roasted red pepper

007

Place cheese on top of the artichokes & then toast both sandwich halves in the toaster oven – or regular oven at 350F if you don’t have a toaster oven – until cheese melts (approx 5 minutes).

010

Place the top slice of bread on top, cut in half, and you’re done!

surfer’s pad

in case you haven’t noticed, we can’t get enough of surfer style right now- in our may catalog, on our website, in our guest blogger series, we LOVE it. so when i saw this art installation/exhibition by photographer keegan gibbs on another blog i had to share. i love that it mixes a traditional exhibit- art hanging on gallery walls – with installation. and its so realistic, i could definitely imagine some surf rats hanging out in this space!

seamless style

here at the home office we’re crazy about our seamless intimates.  they’re very “ginger” pieces on their own but are essential layering pieces for all the fp girls.  today some of our buyers all came in wearing their favorite seamless piece styled in some very different but equally awesome ways  – check it out…

a seamless bodysuit is perfect for layering under something semi-sheer like the finale in fringe slip!
