Weekend Getaway: The Adirondacks

Summer is the perfect time to plan those weekend getaways, and our country is full of great escapes to explore. Last week I headed up north to camp in the Adirondack Mountains – a perfect getaway destination. The mountains, rivers, and lakes are immediately relaxing. We set up camp in Wilmington, NY right near Whiteface Mountain and Lake Placid. It was the perfect spot to explore the village of Lake Placid and to get in good hiking and fishing. The town is full of cute shops, Olympics memorabilia, nice people, and even a pile of snow they keep year round. We shopped local specialties to picnic and grill (look out for this weekend’s recipe!) You can even bring your dog into most places, so bring the trusty friend along if you go. I had Abigail, and she had a blast getting down and dirty in the mountains. One day we hiked Whiteface, the tallest mountain in the region. She made it the whole way =). I highly recommend the challenge if you’re up to it. The view and sense of accomplishment are surreal and invigorating.

An inspiration from New York

I always get inspired when I go to New York and even more inspired by the Young designers who emerge from there. So, when I heard we were carrying Madison Harding, a street provocative footwear line, my inspirational bank started to fill up.
Free-spirited and all-around chic, Madison Harding thrives on the creative style that flawlessly blends modern looks with a vintage edge. These shoe designers draw inspiration for their retro, yet street provocative footwear line from the beloved Lower East Side and New York’s staggering music and art scene

Hilary Rosenman and Barri Budin bonded over a shared love of fashion and contemporary design during their college years. After school, they moved to the East Village in New York City to start their careers in the fashion industry. Hilary served as a fashion market editor and Barri assisted at a contemporary fashion showroom. Soon after, they discovered a lack of accessible, high-fashion shoes designed for the downtown city girl, so the girls set out to follow their true passion, footwear.

The name Madison Harding represents the designer’s roots, Hilary grew up on Madison Ave in New York City and Barri on Harding Drive in New Jersey.

wednes-diy: friendship bracelets

a couple of weeks ago, inspired by a tutorial on honestly…wtf, one of my coworkers was inspired to bring back her love for making friendship bracelets, and created this masterpiece :) personally, i’ve only ever been able to do the straight line across or the V pattern, so i had to know how to do this.

for this tutorial we’ll learn how to make a smaller scale version of the bracelet, and once you get the basic steps down you can start experimenting with more string and lots of colors!
