Festival Fashion for Outside Lands 2011

I am so excited for Outside Lands in San Francisco this weekend!

Festival fashion at Outside Lands differs a little bit from the other summer festivals because of its location. Taking place in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco during the month of August, the weather is on the chillier side (in comparison to, say Coachella or Bonnaroo). Especially when the sun goes down – you will need that extra layer! Keeping this in mind, I put together three looks that I will be rocking at the festival, with the help of fp naomi and our web merchandiser as the lovely model. It’s all about the layers – these pieces can all be mixed and matched, and extra pieces can be thrown over top when it gets cool.

FRIDAY: Festival Day #1

The FP extreme vintage flares have San Francisco written all over them, and from the moment I got my passes for Outside Lands I knew they were coming with me! Pair with a tank and sunglasses, and for a cool touch add a turban! Easy, breezy festival outfit. Oh and this camera bag will be with me at all times so I can document everything for you! As the sun goes down and Phish takes the stage I’ll throw on the silk kimono to stay warm! I love its colorful, psychedelic print.

SATURDAY: Festival Day #2

The festival is in full swing by now and I’ll have a busy day running around meeting people and taking photos! In this outfit I can be comfortable but still look presentable :) A black tunic worn over the amazing ruffle leggings (that I have been waiting for cooler weather to wear!) and the Freebird boots. One of our cute turbans will definitely be in my bag to keep the hair out of my face while I’m running around. Once again, at night, throw on the silk kimono! It looks completely different depending on what you wear it with.

SUNDAY: Festival Day #3

For the final day of the festival it’s back to the extreme vintage flares, worn this time with our cute little honey textured tube top. I love the color of this one! it also looks really cute underneath other items (like the black tank in outfit one, or under the silk kimono). In this case I’ll pair it with a simple white long-sleeved shirt at night or during the day if it’s on the cooler side! Complete the look with a floppy hat and fringed pouch.

Stay tuned for more festival fashion ideas tomorrow from our San Francisco store girls who are attending Outside Lands with me, as well as what bands we are looking forward to!

i know this is unrelated to the post, but i’ve been meaning to post a comment like this for a long time. the models on your website are so unhealthy. how can you sell a product and feel good about it when you are marketing it to young girls through models who are, for lack of a better term, emaciated? everyone can do something about a girl’s self esteem. free people seems like a company that would want to positively impact things like that.
i know that publishing something like this to the blog might reflect badly on you, but consider discussing something like this on the blog.

Yeah, one of the positive thinbgs at FP is also telling about healthy food. You know, organic, vegan, healthy? Try that plus exercise instead of numberless cokes and burgers, then you won’t be having problems with looking at healthy slim models.

As for the clothing, I can imagine what legs of these pants will look like in, like, half an hour. :D

Neimi… Your so right about the pants… Could you imagine. Oh and srry for posting twice earlier totally did not mean to.

As for C.
I really believe if you looked at models you would notice Free People picks girls with healthy but slim builds. They do not look emaciated you would see it in their face and throut. So women are just built small, who would have thunk! And I believe Free People has done a great job at picking models who look like models but represent the brand and it’s spirit.

I feel like you would be freezing in this?! Bring a jacket ladies…Right?!

I agree with Neimi. I’m getting annoyed with clueless women telling FP how to choose their models. All the models they choose are so incredibly beautiful and they are the only company that actually choose diversity instead of all blond hair blue eyed girls. All the models look slim, but healthy to me. I don’t see how or why any company on Earth would hire bigger build models unless they are a plus size company. And btw, C, the person modeling in this is Ms. Julia from FP web, she is not a FP model so you’re just plainly insulting her telling her she is too skinny! I think you look great! I would love to have your long lean body.

as a vegan i think i know healthy foods, so you and your coke and burger can suck my left one. i started the post with the word ‘unrelated,’ so no, i am not criticizing the girl in this post. if you take a closer look at some of the models you will notice gaping hipbones and clavicles, they are, in fact, emaciated. it is not projecting health or a positive body image when you’re displaying all your clothes on women who couldn’t stand to lose another pound. i have no problem ‘looking at healthy slim’ women because i am one. you don’t have to weigh ninety pounds to look that way. all i’m saying is, everyone plays a role in the way young women view themselves, why not take a more proactive stance and invite the notion that all women are beautiful, not just your standard boiler plate, too-thin model.

also neimi, shaming women who might choose to eat a burger over a salad or something less calorific is the antithesis of everything i believe in and you are the reason there is still a need for radical feminists in the world. thin is beautiful. fat is beautiful. a girl feeling empowered by choosing her food is beautiful. girls who shame or spread hate and negative feelings towards women who are comfortable enough with their bodies to eat as they feel are ugly.
