DIY: Brighten Up Your Jewelry With Neon Thread!

When it comes to accessories I’m in a bit of a neon crazy lately – I love this editorial from Cosmo Australia that I saw on Oracle Fox and set out to create lots of fun, laid-back-surfer-girl-style accessories that look awesome when layered heavily like the photo above. And before you go thinking you need to buy a bunch of supplies – I spent $0 on this DIY! I had a bunch of embroidery floss already (but if you don’t, you can buy it in bulk online or at craft stores) and went hunting through my box of old jewelry – dating way back to even as far as middle school – to find the jewelry I would use as the basis of this DIY.

Krazy glue will also come in handy for this DIY!

When it comes to gathering the accessories that will be the basis for this project – think outside the box!

On the left are some more standard necklaces and bracelets that I felt could use a little spicing up – on the right, some other random stuff I had lying around!

There are no rules or steps to this DIY – just get creative and see what you can come up with! To inspire you to get started, here’s what I created:

This lanyard cord was buried in a drawer and ended up being PERFECT for this DIY. I just cut off the metal clip part at the end.

Using brightly colored embroidery thread, I wrapped the thread around the cord in a random pattern, using the krazy glue to adhere it to the cord on the ends – which works amazingly well, it hasn’t budged! I want to get more cord like this so I can make a bunch of necklaces with different colors and patterns to layer all together.

For the one on the left, I braided some of the neon thread with a piece of hemp and attached it to the end of a simple silver chain. And a tip for the one on the right – this chain was pretty small, but if you dab some krazy glue on the end of the embroidery thread and pinch it together, you can form an almost needle-like tip that you can then use to weave the thread through the chain. I love the subtle color it adds!

I liked the way these colors accentuated the colors in the stone.

I love how they look all layered together! Now I just need someone to do my hair like the girl in the top photo…

It’s in fact very complex in this busy life to listen news on Television, thus I only use internet for that purpose, and take the most recent news.
