Thursday Poll: November Catalog

For this month’s catalog we celebrated fashion inspiration from decades past and present – moving through the 20’s, 50’s, and 70’s to current day. There’s so much to love about this book, and each decade truly has its own spirit and style. Now it’s time to vote: which decade did you enjoy the most?

  1. I’ve noticed on roadtrips the past few years elements of fashion from the thirties, and maybe immigrant clothing from earlier in the century? Young fellows in trousers held with suspenders & tweed caps, girls in longer heavier skirts or thirties day dresses, working class styles, rougher, little bits of jazz singer attitude. Very beautiful, I think. Has anyone else noticed?

  2. It would be interesting if you did articles on individual pieces/trends & the historical influence. Like say, when you offer a dropwaist dress (who started that, in the twenties…?) or items that are victorian era influenced, or Native American- what tribe does the tradition come from- or certain styles of embroidery or where did crochet begin? A reviewer likened a maxi cardigan/dress you have to a cotehardie, which I had to go look up & thought was a very good comparison.

  3. Loved the catalog as well (always do!), but the 1970’s section had me confused. The paragraph in the beginning mentioned The Summer of Love, Haight Ashbury, and the Beatles. All of these things were done and over with by the 70s…. Not a big deal, the clothes are what counts, but history and all….

  4. Through ALL of the Free People catalogues that I have seen throughout the years, this one is hands down my favorite! What a brilliant concept, perfectly executed to a tee. Thank you

  5. Beautiful catalog! I just got it in the mail the other day! Would I be cheating if I picked every single decade as my favorite? I’m curious… who shot this catalog? The photographs are AMAZING!
