Friday Tunes

Oh, music…what would I do without you? So much amazing music has been filling my ears lately, keeping me company during alone time, helping me focus at work and soothing me to sleep at night. I have a bad habit though with music – when I find something I really love, or am in the mood to hear a certain album, I listen to it repeatedly for about a week, kinda like when you get a new t-shirt or pair of jeans and just want to wear them every day. Sometimes it’s new music, sometimes it’s something old that I happen to start obsessing over again. I thought I’d share this week’s “on repeat” albums – let me know if you love them too!

Caveman – CoCo Beware

This album from Brooklyn-based band Caveman is so good it hurts… mellow, sometimes moody but mostly sun-shiny feel good music, so perfect for this time of year. Check out “December 28th,” it screams summer and I can just imagine it playing in the background when I’m relaxing on my beach house deck with a cold drink in my hand.

Alabama Shakes – Boys & Girls

It’s finally here! I’ve been waiting for this album since I first heard “Hold On,” and got a little preview when I saw them down at SXSW that had me itching for more – they create a sound that is such an intriquing mix of new and old. Singer Brittany Howard has an amazing soulful voice that really shines on the title track and “You Ain’t Alone.”

Lee Fields – Faithful Man

Lee Fields has been around a while, but I did not discover his music until SXSW, when he completely blew us all out of the water with this performance. Since coming back I’ve been listing to this album and can’t get enough – if you’re a fan of soul, I think you’ll dig it too. But everyone should check out “Still Hanging On.” Amazing song.

Toro Y Moi – Underneath the Pine

Here’s an example of an album that isn’t new, but one of its songs (“Still Sound” – rad song) came on my RDIO playlist the other day and it reminded me of how awesome this album is. It’s great music when I’m working – chill but upbeat enough to not put me to sleep, and just such a great sound when listening with headphones. I recommend the entire thing!
