Friday Tunes

This week I’ve been in a Washed Out mood, maybe because of the show at Union Transfer Thursday night, or maybe just the nice weather, it brings me back to late summer last year and dancing in Golden Gate Park!

I’ve been listening to the new Shins album, “Port of Morrow,” a lot this week, and as usual James Mercer’s songwriting is beautiful – I think he can do no wrong. Their songs are the type that still ring in your ears long after you’ve stopped listening, which is a good thing because they could easily be life’s soundtrack. They’re touring right now, hitting Coachella before making their way back east for three shows at NYC’s Terminal 5 and a show here in Philly at Tower Theater! Check out “It’s Only Life,” it’s a beauty.

In honor of Levon, but also because it’s just plain awesome – “The Last Waltz” is the documentary film/live album of The Band’s final concert, which took place at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco. They had some pretty amazing guests who joined them on stage, I mean look at the photo above – Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, along with The Band, it’s almost too much awesomeness for one stage. If you haven’t seen the documentary, it’s probably the best music film ever made, I recommend checking that out too!
