Summer Beach Reads: On My List

Mornings at the beach are my favorite kind of mornings… wake up slowly, sunlight filtering through open windows and the sound of seagulls stirring me from dreams. Pour a cup of coffee, grab a blanket and curl up in a chair on the deck with a good book. I do more reading in the time I spend at the beach than probably the whole rest of the year. Here are a few of the books I’d like to read this summer – leave your suggestions for great summer reads in the comments!!

Still Life with Woodpecker – Tom Robbins

Tom Robbins is one of my favorite authors, ever – any one of his books would be on my list of recommended summer reading, but this is one of his few books I haven’t read yet. Robbins has a magical way with the English language, weaving intricate, fantasy-laden tales that are so convincing you almost believe they could really be true – that a sock, spoon or can of beans can have a soul or that human beings can live forever, if they set their minds to it. I can’t wait to dive into another one of his adventures.

Bossypants – Tina Fey

I have been wanting to read this book for a while now and I am determined to this summer – I love Tina Fey and even just reading the “reviews” makes me laugh out loud – “I hope that’s not really the cover. That’s really going to hurt sales.” (Don Fey, Father of Tina Fey ); “Absolutely delicious!” (A Guy Who Eats Books ).

Life – Keith Richards

Another one I’ve been meaning to read for some time now… the Rolling Stones are one of my all-time favorite bands and I’ve always been fascinated with Keith Richards. The man is a legend, and has lived quite an interesting life. This book is perfect for the beach because its long, but the type that you can put down for a little while and then come back to later – and it never gets boring.

‘Still life with Woodpecker’ is one of my favorite from Tom Robbins! So perfect! You should also try ‘Wild Ducks Flying Backwards’ which is a mix of his poems, reviews and short stories that you can stop and come back to but are all equally as inspiring. x

I’m reading ‘Still Life with Woodpecker’ now! My sister gave it to me because I’m a red head :) It’s great so far–I highly recommend it!

I’ve been meaning to read ‘Life’ by Kieth Richards as well! Patti Smith’s biography is meant to be really good as well :)
