With the launch of our new FP Movement line, we’ve all got yoga on the brain. We love to burn candles while practicing yoga – especially during meditation – but have you ever noticed that different candle scents actually affect your mind and body in different ways?
Today we share some different aromas and how each can offer you benefits. Whether you’re practicing yoga or just hanging out around the house, here’s how you can improve the way you feel by simply lighting a candle.
If you’re feeling like your life is a constant whirlwind of responsibility, where you have a hard time telling whether you’re coming or going, vanilla may be the choice for you. The recognizably sweet scent is known to reduce stress with its comforting, balancing effect.
Jasmine is my personal favorite! If you sense your relationship might be heading to a low point, light a jasmine candle and do some yoga with your guy or gal to pick it right back up. Jasmine can help to overcome sadness and depression, and its lovely romantic scent is just the icing on the cake.
Some days life is just too mentally and physically tiring – even for yoga! If you find yourself having one of these days, burn a peppermint candle. The minty scent will boost your alertness and wake you right up – you won’t even know what hit you.
The sweet, floral rose scent will have you feeling quite feminine. Not only will it soothe feelings of anger, grief, depression, and stress, rose oil is known to balance the female hormones and treat emotional damage.
When it comes to the strong scent of patchouli, you’ll either love it or hate it –but if you love it, it’ll loves you right back. This uplifting, deep, musky scent acts as an anti-depressant, a de-stressor, and even an aphrodisiac.
Ylang-ylang is perfect when you’re feeling like you’re at your worst – or your absolute best! This uplifting scent brings about feelings of hope and joy, diminishing any hint of depression, and giving you the feeling that you can conquer anything! Because, let’s be real, you can conquer anything.

i’ve been looking for candles for my at home practice~ do you have a link to an online store where you buy yours or have a suggestion?
Molly – the best I’ve ever come across is the White Tea & Linen candle from Our Own Candle Company. Don’t let the website deter you — it is the most amazing thing I have ever smelled. It burns forever and I get compliments on it all the time.. AND it comes in the most adorable mason jar — complete with handle.
Love this post!!
def ckecking it out-thank you!!
Thanks for the scent biographies. I am a vanilla nut. Love it in my coffee, candles, colognes and cooking. Now I know why. I was ADHD before they had a name for it. I know it has helped me as well as the lavender for years. I am going to suggest to my daughter who suffers from depression, some of these other scents to burn in her room.
