The African Queen: How Katharine Hepburn Inspires Us

Katharine Hepburn in The African Queen reminds me of the military and Victorian trend merger we are excited about right now. She’s a graceful lady in this African adventure, wrapped up in Victorian-style dresses and blouses. The  film was shot in 1951, and adapted from the 1935 novel by C.S. Forester. Directed by John Huston, the movie is set in Africa during WWI. A riverboat owner/captain is persuaded by a straight-laced missionary to use his boat to attack an enemy warship. We love how Katharine Hepburn is styled in this film and the juxtapositions of sweet and feminine verses with an action/ adventure vibe, just like the story portrayed in our August catalog.
