Band Crush: Get To Know TEEN

If you haven’t heard about Brooklyn-based band TEEN yet, you will soon.  The band was formed by former Here We Go Magic keyboard-player Teeny Lieberson, who wrote a solo EP and recruited her sisters Lizzie and Katherine and longtime friend Jane Herships to round out the band with instruments and more vocals.  The EP would be the foundation of the band’s debut album, In Limbo, which came out on August 28thIt is an impressive introduction to the band, who combine their layered sounds and harmonies to make a unique type of lo-fi neo-psychedelic pop that is fresh and new but also has a distinct retro vibe.  Listen to a few songs from the album and read our interview with Teeny Lieberson below!

Where were you when you wrote your first song, and what was it about?

I was in the car with my family and it was about my stuffed animal.

You just released your debut album “In Limbo”; describe the album in three words:

Iron

Salt

Gospel

3 of you are sisters, what’s it like being in a band with family members?

It can definitely feel emotional at times and things can erupt quickly, but overall, I think we have a pretty solid working dynamic. The fights dissipate quickly. I’m sure it’s hard for Jane though!

If your music was a place, where would it be?

Diros Caves.

What sort of music do you listen to? What’s on your iPod right now?

All sorts of music. Right now I’m listening to Laurel Halo, Delta 5, Gary Wilson and always Cocteau Twins.

How would you describe your personal style?

Baggy with boots.

You are currently touring, is there a show you’re particularly excited about or place you’re excited to visit?

Yeah I’m excited to play in California – LA and San Francisco. It’s definitely a nice change of pace from the East Coast.

What do you like to do when you have down time?

Read, record. Watch movies. Cook and eat really good food. Spend time with my boyfriend. Sweat in a sauna.

Tell me something most people don’t know about you.

It’s all out there.
