Two British Meals I Adore

Britain is known for its hearty/comfort meals; food that is filling and has been carried through the centuries. You could call them unfussy dishes, made with quality local produce matched with simple sauces.

Above: scones, clotted cream and jam

Britain has many regional varieties: English, Scottish, and Welsh cuisine. Each has developed its own local dishes, many of which hold their name of origin, such as Cornish pasties, Yorkshire pudding, and Welsh cakes – which I will be giving you the recipe for very soon.

A Sunday Roast

My favorite dishes in Britain derive from the Celtic agriculture and Anglo-Saxon times – meat dishes with savory herbs and vegetables.  My favorite winter evening meal is sausage and mash with gravy (that’s brown gravy, not white): a simple, filling and tasty meal.

Sausage and Mash

Come weekends I love indulging in scones, clotted cream and jam with my cup of tea known as the “cream tea” meal. With this you get a scone that’s slightly warm and cut it in half with a little clotted cream on top of each half and then jam. It’s so yummy!

I find British food indulgent because of its heavy and filling ingredients, and I often find myself so sleepy after eating. What’s your favorite British meal?

I had a wonderful chicken pie at a traditional British pub when I visited my friend in Nottingham and lately I’ve been craving that same kind of pie. I tried to make it myself but it wasn’t the same. I guess I’ll have to find a good British pub here in Stockholm :)

I love this. A food post on a fashion blog that is about simple, good food and the enjoyment of it. Not telling me how to be or what kind of dairy-free low-fat yogurt I should start replacing mayo with. Thumbs all the way up
