Saturday DO: Appreciate The Little Things

This may sound simple, but it’s easier said than done.  We are always on the go, moving from one place to the next, rarely stopping to really enjoy the present moment and the little things in life that make those moments so special. It’s easy to forget the small things when we have so many larger things on our plates; but just as we sometimes want to focus on the big picture, and not sweat the small stuff, it’s important sometimes to remember and cherish those little moments.  I was driving to work the other day and a good song came on the radio – Beirut, “Santa Fe”.  Normally when I’m driving to work I am literally in a zone, I don’t know what I’m thinking about, I’m just focused on getting there. But in that moment I suddenly wanted to just keep driving. It was a beautiful day and I had the windows down and it made me think about how nice this little part of my day – however short it is – can be. Take the time to appreciate the little things today – if you’re walking somewhere, take your time, look around you and soak it all in. Maybe even pick up a disposable camera and document the small, seemingly unimportant things you come across. A pretty flower, a word or thought scribbled on a wall or etched in pavement,  the way the sunlight filters through a tree…the photos will make for a nice memory.

More Saturday DO inspiration :)

  1. I wish I could bundle this blog post up in a plaid snuggly blanket and deliver it to everyone I know. As humans, we constantly fog up and forget the simple thought that this thing called life we got goin’ is pretty sweet and taking those sweet moments to relish in the little things is a great reminder. After reading this post I took the time to fully soak in these three wee moments all from the same single day: the way the early morning sun turns my hallway into a fiery blaze as if giving me a sunny hug to begin my day, the way the sound of a sewing machine instantly calms, and my personal favorite- the small victory of temporarily fixing a squeak in my vintage bicycle with a hair band (girlpower). By taking the extra couple seconds to recognize these uplifting moments, imagine if we all did..every single day. That’s a whole lot of pep-in-your-steppin’!
