Saturday DO: Go Technology Free (Just For A Day!)

I have an amazing job, but along with it comes the fact that it’s pretty difficult to stay away from technology.  Every day, we’re blogging, tweeting, instagramming, facebooking – the list goes on and on.  I get so in the habit of doing these things that even on weekends and during time off I’ll find myself on some social media site, be it Instagram or Tumblr, or my newest obsession, Pinterest. On top of that, there’s the cell phone reliance – what in the world did we do back when we didn’t have them? Luckily for me, I don’t have a television at home, but I spend a lot of time at my boyfriend’s place and he has one. The point I’m trying to make is that technology surrounds us these days, everywhere we go. But it doesn’t have to. I have recently decided that I want to designate one day of each week a “technology-free” day. OK, I think that might be a bit of a stretch. Maybe once a month? That means no cell phone, no laptop, no NOTHING.  Last time I did this, I couldn’t believe how freeing it was just to not have the cell phone.  If I could have my way, I’d get rid of it all together and go back to a land-line.  Today, try to get through the entire day without any technology.  Instead, spend time outdoors, write someone a letter, gather some crafting supplies and make something special, hang out with friends (make prearranged plans to meet somewhere so you don’t need a phone!).  If you do, let me know how it goes!

I have gone for days without computer usage, but with close family overseas, I refuse to forfeit the use of my telephone :)

It is so liberating when you do give up some of the social media we tend to live for…I moved to upstate NY four years ago and I had to get rid of the cell phone…(no cell service) – it is amazing – I love not having it. I do love facebook, pinterest, reading blogs, etc… and of course my computer but I can also go days without touching my computer…I recommend this to anyone, to at least try it out for just one day!

***Hey Julia – I am spending my birthday weekend (Oct 24th) in Philly…any suggestions on where to eat, sleep and shop..?***

Happy Autumnal Equinox Everyone!!!

Ironically, I did this by accident on Saturday. I was helping my friend move ALL DAY and my iPhone somehow went black and wouldn’t come back on. I wasn’t able to google how to fix the problem until late that night when I got home. It was kind of nice.
