scorpio star sign illustrationSCORPIO

October 23-November 21

Despite your worst fears (or your highest hopes, if you’re fortunate enough to consider the people who raised you to be ideal role models), you’re not becoming your parents. We all have that thought from time to time, but this is not the time for Scorpios to think they are anyone but 100% themselves. That’s because with the moon’s karmic north node and executive Saturn in your sign, people are looking to you to step up. In fact, you’re looking to you to step up. Mercury is also in Scorpio, empowering you to speak with more authority. And this week, the sun brings its heat to cold Saturn and its light to your dark sign. It’s a pressure cooker, but how else are you going to prove yourself? Saturn is known for giving us exactly what we’ve earned, not a penny more or a penny less. With so much planetary energy in your sign, it’s imperative that you finally believe that you’ve earned the right to be your authentic self, no more, no less. Yes, you’re from the same family tree as your parents, and maybe the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. But at the risk of mixing my metaphors, I’m telling you that you must bear your own fruit. If you’re struggling with this, you might find James Hillman’s book The Soul’s Code: In Search of Character and Calling helpful.

SAGITTARIUS

November 22-December 21

“Solitude…is the one deep necessity of the human spirit to which adequate recognition is never given in our codes. It is looked upon as a discipline or a penance, but hardly ever as the indispensable, pleasant ingredient it is to ordinary life.” ~Freya Stark

As much as you love a good adventure, with three planets in your seclusion sector, the best escapade for you right now would be to pull a disappearing act. Mars in your sign and Venus in your ambition angle are activating your drive and desire to have an impact on the world right this second, but the opposition you’ll meet with this week will make cocooning seem like a wise move. Maybe you’re trying to do too much, or maybe it’s just that the time is ripe to regroup. In any case, finding a few moments of peace to turn inward is a journey all its own. You’re the sign of the athlete, but you’re also the sign of the philosopher.

CAPRICORN

December 22-January 19

The sun’s move into your network house this week underscores the need for you to reach out to people who can point you in the right direction. And when the sun syncs with inspirational Neptune in your communication zone, it gives you a push to talk about your hopes and dreams. Neptune is also the planet of confusion, though, so allow yourself to express your misgivings as well. Capricorns always want to appear as if they’ve got it together, but you won’t lose your poised reputation if you ask for a bit of help or guidance. You’ve savvy enough to realize that there’s strength in numbers. However, if you’re not yet at the point where you can verbalize these things to a team of contacts, write them down. You can easily communicate them to your tech device of choice or your journal if you can’t communicate them to a mentor or supportive friend. One last thing: Don’t let an issue with family, home or coworkers undermine you now. Keep looking forward.

AQUARIUS

January 20-February 18

Your ambition is in high gear, due to clever Mercury and CEO Saturn traveling through your career angle, and this week it kicks into overdrive when the fiery sun joins them. The sun meshes with murky Neptune in your worth sector, potentially clarifying your value—monetary or otherwise—to the powers that be. And the sun should also make it clear to you what you need to do in order to be taken seriously. Learning to be your own authority will move you away from feeling like you’re always having to answer to an external one. It’s about changing your thinking in order to empower yourself, instead of waiting for someone to hand you power. So when I say the powers that be will see your value, know that it all has to start with you.

PISCES

February 19-March 20

The sun blazes into your beliefs sector this week, where Mercury and Saturn have already been causing you to question some answers that you assumed you had squared away. Hopefully the sun will help you to see the road ahead a bit better, and its connection with Neptune in your sign can facilitate a more animated vision of manifestation—namely, you manifesting your dreams. But as a dreamy sign, and with three planets taking up residence in the personal-philosophy part of your chart, you’re liable to get lost in questions about the future now. Resist that tendency, because it could turn into an endless loop of “What’s going to happen to me?” What’s going to happen to you is you’re going to manifest your dreams, one way or another. Decide to believe that.

ARIES

March 21-April 19

Spies, as depicted on TV and in the movies, exhibit high-voltage Aries energy, jumping from rooftop to rooftop to catch or evade the enemy and neutralizing him with their martial-arts moves. But the CIA’s job description for an Operations Officer (the equivalent of a movie spy) explains that he or she is “focused full time on clandestinely spotting, assessing, developing, recruiting, and handling individuals…” and employs “strong interpersonal skills…and ability to assess the character and motivations of others to establish strong human relationships and trust.” In other words, a Scorpio. As the sun moves into Scorpio this week, joining Saturn and Mercury, it forms an awkward angle with Uranus in your sign—calling for you to adapt to a more Scorpionic way of being. Rather than jumping into action like an Aries, quietly vibe people out like a Scorpio. Research something until you get to the bottom of it. Be persistent, even obsessive. Opt for covert action, not overt. And with secretive Pluto in your acclaim sector, as the CIA says, “By the very nature of this clandestine business, officers can expect limited external recognition for themselves…. Instead, the Agency has its own internal promotions, awards and medals, and makes every effort to recognize the accomplishments of its personnel.” Recognize your own undercover accomplishments, even if you’d rather be rappelling down a building.

TAURUS

April 20-May 20

As the sign of possession, it’s not easy for a Taurus to release anything. But in order to grow now, you must release your ego’s attachment to self-sufficiency and recognize the extent to which your personal bonds enrich your life. The sun crosses a threshold in your chart this week, meeting up with Saturn and Mercury in your house of others, so it’s time for show-and-tell—confidently sharing yourself with the people around you. It takes effort to open up to others and to allow for all the unknown variables that they bring with them, but you’re limiting your potential if you don’t. There is something within you—creativity, pleasure, love—that wants to be expressed, and for that to happen, you require an audience. And there are people who want to know more about you, people who will benefit from what you have to contribute. The last thing you should do now is to go it alone.

GEMINI

May 21-June 20

As banal as this may sound, it’s all about putting in the work now. That’s because the focalizing sun is entering your duties sector, where your ruling planet, Mercury, has already been hanging with responsible Saturn. This is the house of mundane matters, and mundane means “of or pertaining to this world or earth.” So ground yourself in carrying out necessary tasks rather than letting your head spin off into thoughts of who can help you with what, because support is not guaranteed right now. You’ll earn more satisfaction from counting on yourself and keeping your nose to the grindstone. Fantasies of success are absolutely allowed—as long as they’re used for motivation, not escapism.

CANCER

June 21-July 22

“Bliss might seem the most uncomplicated of emotions, but joy is complex and made more profound because it is often preceded by pain or, at the very least, by a melancholy against which it flashes like a bolt of lightning across a dark sky.” ~Ayana Mathis

Mercury and Saturn recently segued from your emotional-foundation house to your joy zone, and this week, the sun follows suit. This area of the chart is the sun’s natural habitat, for the astrological sun is the symbol of our inner light, joyfully radiating our vital essence. Your sign, ruled by the moody moon, tends to become enveloped by the complicated nuances of your own feelings. As the above quote illustrates, even joy isn’t simple. Try to connect now with what is innate in you and to have faith in your own power to shine. We all bring something unique to the table. What exquisite mix of joy and pain is currently driving you? And how does that inform what you’re striving to do?

LEO

July 23-August 22

Your ruling planet, the sun, dives to the bottom of your chart this week, meeting up with slow-it-down Saturn in your domestic angle. Although the sun is thought of as an energizer, in this part of your chart, its yang energy takes on a yin tone. Here is where you recharge your battery, not where you charge off on a mission. This week may also bring some push-pull between your personal agenda and that of a group, so relaxing at home will be an appealing out. And when the sun harmonizes with intuitive Neptune in your psychology sector, nesting or connecting with family will have the added benefit of putting you back in touch with your core self and your roots. You’ll feel more sure of what you’re doing out in the world if you give yourself a chance to breathe.

VIRGO

August 23-September 22

Ruled by mental Mercury, Virgos are known for their analytical minds, though you don’t always say what’s on yours. And with deliberate Saturn in your cognitive-and-verbal zone, you may be especially tight-lipped of late. Mercury’s presence there suggests that your mind has been working overtime, however, and this week the sun glides into that same sector, making a party of three. The sun will shed light on what you’ve been thinking about and why it’s keeping you quiet. In your case, is silence, as George Bernard Shaw wrote, “the most perfect expression of scorn”? Or is it, as François de La Rochefoucauld’s put it, “the best tactic for him who distrusts himself”? You have so much going on in your head, and yet you’re holding your tongue. If silence speaks volumes, what is yours saying?

LIBRA

September 23-October 22

With your ruling planet, lovely Venus, crossing over from your selflessness house to your self angle this week, you need to take your focus off of others and concentrate on taking care of you. In case you require additional evidence that this adjustment is necessary, the sun in your physicality sector blends with cleansing Neptune in your health-and-fitness zone as well, bringing a healing energy to your week. The sun revitalizes us, so consider what kind of fuel you’re providing for your body. As the saying goes, “garbage in, garbage out.” And try thinking of your body as a vehicle transporting you through life—then ask yourself how well you’re maintaining its condition. If you take better care of your car than your body, it’s definitely time for a wellness metamorphosis! Your habits are more flexible than usual, so seize this opportunity.
