Exhibit We Love: The Rainroom By Random International

Can you imagine walking through a room that is dramatically lit and there’s rain falling from the ceiling? You would expect to get soaking wet, right?

Think again… right now at The Barbican, London there’s an art installation by Random International at The Curve Gallery in which you control the elements. A 100 square foot field of falling water is before you and as you step into it you’d expect to get wet but, surprisingly you don’t. As you walk the water moves away from the area you’re in, but it still pours around you.

The feeling is quite odd, a certain sense of empowerment comes over you but on the other hand you’re relaxed and feel light.  How is this magic created? It’s based on technology of course. The Rain Room is controlled by a series of cameras that 3D map the location of bodies. A total of 2,500 liters of water fall at a rate of 1,000 liters per minute which is filtered, treated, and recycled.

It’s an incredible experience, one that should not be missed! The exhibit is at The Barbican until March 2013 so if you have the opportunity, check it out! I’m sure you wont be disappointed.
