This month, we have been inspired by our March catalog to surround ourselves with flowers and all things bright and cheerful! With that in mind and with spring just around the corner, today’s DIY is for an adorable little garden pail made pretty by decoupaging napkins onto it. Decoupage is amazing – there is so much you can do with it, and once you get started it is difficult to stop. I go through so much of this stuff at home making collages, but I never thought to decoupage napkins onto things! I love the idea of covering old re-used coffee cans with floral printed napkins – the result is an adorable floral pail that is perfect for use in the garden or really anywhere around the home.
What you need: an empty coffee can, printed napkins, Mod Podge, and a sponge paint brush to apply the mod podge with. (I originally thought about painting the can first to give it a base layer but ended up not doing that).
Wrap the napkin around the can – don’t worry if it doesn’t wrap all the way around, you can always add another layer! This napkin happened to fit perfectly around, and I just trimmed the excess off the bottom.
Use the sponge brush to apply the Mod Podge on top of the napkin.
Use your fingers to smooth out creases and bumps after applying the Mod Podge.
I felt like the pail needed some more flowers – the great thing about this is you can add more layers without it being noticeable!
Before Mod Podge.
After Mod Podge!
I added a little twine handle with super glue so the pail could be easily carried around.
As the Mod Podge dries, it blends with the thin napkins and creates an almost transparent layer on the can that looks really vintage and cool!
This also works really well on Easter Eggs! I couldn’t resist.

This is so adorable…I save all of my coffee cans to plant herbs and now I can actually make the can look pretty! Love the idea for the Easter eggs – thank you!<3
Such a cute idea! My husband is a huge coffee drinker and we buy the large cans of coffee..I feel bad to throw them away so I have some just sitting around, now I know what awesome things i can do with them!!
