DIY Glass Bottle Centerpiece

This week we were inspired by our Dark Rose lookbook that was all about mixing the perfect amount of feminine lace with darker touches of onyx. For today’s DIY, we used those elements to create a beautiful glass bottle centerpiece that incorporates the pretty but also gothic feel that the featured looks have. This is so simple to make and can be used anywhere! It would look great as the centerpiece for a candle lit dinner or even as decor on your desk.

What you need: clear glass bottle (feel free to use colored glass for a different look), paint, glue gun, and lace or crochet fabric.

I searched my local fabric store and found out that the trimmings section had just what I needed . I loved the look of cotton, lace, and crochet together so I decided to use a combination of all three!

I used Folk Art Acrylic Paint in Magenta Pur.

Slant the glass bottle and slowly squirt the paint down the inside. My paint was very thick so I added the tiniest bit of warm water to the bottle and shook it up before pouring it in. This helps the paint glide down and create a dripping effect.

After the inside of the bottle is covered in paint to your liking, take your fabric and wrap it around the base of the bottle and secure with a dab of glue.

Trim off the excess fabric.

Continue to layer on your fabrics until you have reached a desired height.

Before you add water and flowers to your centerpiece, make sure the paint is completely dry inside. It is important to make sure the bottle stays upright while its drying so the paint doesn’t merge into itself too much. I mixed some deeply hued dried flowers with black fake flowers to give it that dark touch.

Voila! Another option instead of using flowers is to add branches or long feathers to your centerpiece. Have fun and get creative with it!
