Recipe: Festival Detox Smoothie

Music festivals are amazing, but recovering from them is a different story. Three days of dancing in the hot, hot sun can leave your body exhausted and dehydrated, taking it’s toll well after you’ve left the festival. After a festival I always feel like I need to detox – even if I haven’t been eating or drinking anything that unhealthy, my body just needs to be recharged. I came up with this smoothie recipe as a way to help detox post-festival and also to give me a much-needed energy boost, and it definitely did the trick!

festival detox smoothie ingredients

Festival Detox Smoothie

Makes one smoothie

1 cup blueberries
About 5 strawberries
1/2 cup super fruit
3/4 cup coconut water
1/4 cup pomegranate juice
1 tsp coconut oil
1/2 cup ice

Add all ingredients to a blender, blend until smooth and serve!

I chose blueberries for their wonderful antioxidant qualities, and strawberries simply because they are my favorite! I also added in some super fruit – which is actually pear flavored with acai and pomegranate. I had never had it before but it is incredibly rich in antioxidants and vitamin C. Instead of water I used coconut water and a splash of pomegranate juice. The secret ingredient in this smoothie is the coconut oil! I’ve been told by multiple people about the benefits of eating a spoonful of coconut oil a day.  Its benefits go on and on – it helps build up your body’s resistance to viruses and bacteria, increases metabolism, energy and endurance, helps restore normal thyroid function and reduces cholesterol. It is also incredibly hydrating for your skin, hair and nails! All benefits aside, it also gives this smoothie a delicious tropical flavor.

This is so good, I had all the ingredients so I had to give it a try. It was exactly what I needed after celebrating my birthday last night!! Just perfect!

my only problem I ran into was the coconut oil solidified in my blender, so it didn’t all get blended…most of it was hardened on the inside of the blender!! :)

Love this! I make it (almost) every morning for breakfast lately! Instead of pear, try it with the less tasty but soooo healthy fresh red beets! Makes me feel like a million bucks, even when I’m hungover :)

This recipe looks so, so good!

My favorite smoothie recipe is:
1 banana
1/2 cup of frozen peaches
1/2 cup of frozen strawberries
1 cup of organic, original almond milk
and a few ice cubes
Tastes delicious!

Spinach, bananas, and peanut butter make a good smoothie too!

also, i add kale and/or spinach to this recipe. it sounds disgusting, but i promise you cant even taste it! and if you blend it for a solid minute or so, the greens blend so well that there isnt even a texture to them anymore! i try to sneak leafy greens into every meal of the day, even breakfast ;)

Hi!!
This sounds amazing!! I was just wondering if coconut oil is good for you? I heard some places it’s really bad and I’m scared to use it!
Thanks!
