Healthy Juice Recipes: Spicy Beet Lemonade

This is the final post in our healthy juice recipe series for the month of April from Kelsi Windmiller!

The last juice recipe I would like to share with you this month is for spicy beet lemonade. This juice tastes similar to a Master Cleanse (lemon, cayenne, and maple syrup) but it contains less sugar and many more vital nutrients. Be sure to buy quality organic ingredients for this recipe. Cayenne extract can be found in your local natural foods market. It is great for circulation, clears sinuses, boosts immunity, and has been known to aid in weight loss. It is potent so add as many drops as you would like to this recipe. Beets are an amazing root that contain potassium, magnesium, fiber, iron, folic acid, and vitamins A, B & C. They have also been known to remove toxins from the liver and boost mood. The sweetness from the beets makes a perfect lemonade, and be sure to drink plenty of water with it.

3 Lemons
Cayenne Extract
1 cup Water

lemon and beet juice

Start by cleaning your beets, then cut them into smaller pieces for the juicer. Remove all of the rind from the lemons and run through the juicer. Combine the beet juice, lemon juice, water, and 6 drops (or more if you would like) of cayenne extract. Enjoy!

Hey! I love all your juice recipes – definitely a fan. I was wondering if anyone knew what a good basic juicer was.. or what anyone at FP uses?
Looking to start getting into juicing but have no idea what juicers are out there / how to tell the difference for what I need..

Thoughts anyone?
Thanks!

I juice everyday and I use the Breville Juice Fountain Plus and it’s great. It can handle anything I put in – whole beets, apples, etc. and it’s quick and easy. With any juicer, including this one, you have to be willing to clean it which can take longer than making the juice. If you have a dishwasher, you’re set. I don’t and I don’t mind the washing. You can make a bunch and freeze it and drink it all week if washing daily seems daunting.

Simple but great recipe. Thanks!

@Shanel: A bit late, but a Breville Juice Fountain Plus is a good basic centrifugal juicer. If you’d like to juice kale or wheatgrass, you might want to look for an Omega 8006 Juicer, which is a bit pricier, but will definitely pay for itself. Here’s a helpful link: http://juicerreviewslive.com/.
