DIY Lavender Tea Tree Surface Cleaner

This guest post comes from our contributor FP Naomi.

This general-use cleaner is chemical free and a gentle eliminator of harmful bacteria. Why is that important? Believe it or not, our bodies and health depend on a rich environment of microbes. We don’t want to wipe them all out. Strong anti-bacterial products have their place in hospitals and things of the like, but not so much in your home. Harsh chemicals used to kill bacteria have been linked to toxins that are suspected to cause cancer and cellular damage, as well. It’s always best to avoid inhaling fumes or adding toxins to surfaces, especially those you use to prepare food.

You can easily make your own surface cleaner to avoid chemicals and microbe extermination. You mostly likely already have the ingredients floating around your home to do so. The recipe below takes about five minutes to throw together, and should last you a month or so. Instead of strong fumes, it has a nice herbal clean smell that you won’t be able to get enough of.

I made my own cleaner that was supposed to be orange scented – not so much.

Have to try this! I usually just make homemade “windex” from vinegar and rubbing alcohol and water, but i love the idea of using the tea tree oil and essential oils for a nice smell too :)

I actually make a surface cleaner that’s very similar to this! The only difference is I add in a tablespoon of Borax for extra cleaning power :)

Trying it!

I am ALWAYS looking for non-toxic cleansers to use in my home, not only because it’s safer but because of my 2 year old daughter. I’d rather not have her inhaling harsh chemicals.

thank you, thank you!!!

Is this surface cleaner good on wood and other different types of surfaces?

Thank you for sharing. Here is my recipe for a furniture polish: Mix two parts olive oil and one part lemon juice.

I am ALL about tea tree right now! I just published this post, but I definitely need to try this out.
