It seems like this time of year is always a good time for new music… today I have a couple albums to share with you that I can’t stop listening to! The first comes from one of the artists we featured in this post, Thao and the Get Down Stay Down. This isn’t a new release, but it is one that I didn’t really start listening to until more recently – and now I can’t stop. Thao is amazingly talented and it really shines here. Her voice can be soft and unassuming and then so powerful the next moment, and her guitar-plucking skills should not go unnoticed. At times it gives the music an unexpected folksy sound that I really love. Check out “We The Common,” “We Don’t Call,” and “Holy Roller.”
I have been so excited for the new Washed Out album ever since I first heard the first single from it, “It All Feels Right.” I still can’t stop listening to that song – like all of his music, it can take you to another place in your mind – usually some distant, peaceful island. His music is incredibly atmospheric, and it takes over all of your senses – you can almost smell salty air and taste it on your tongue. Another thing I love about his music is that you can listen to his albums all the way through, on repeat. Every song is good and they all fit together so seamlessly. In addition to “It All Feels Right” check out “All I Know” and “Paracosm.”
This is another one that isn’t brand new but I didn’t start listening to it until the past month and I am hooked! Baths is the music of Will Wiesenfeld, who creates electronic soundscapes that are unlike anything I’ve heard before. It is incredibly unique, and there’s something about it that you can’t quite put your finger on – it makes you keep listening, noticing new layers and sounds each time. And, like Washed Out, it’s a great album all the way through. Check out “Miasma Sky” and “No Eyes.”
