Fall Beauty Prep: 3 Moisturizing Hair Treatments

UPDATE: This post originally ran on September 6th but now that fall is officially underway, we need these moisturizing hair masks more than ever!As the weather transitions from summer to fall, so does our wardrobe, our home décor, and our beauty routine. The disappearance of humidity does wonders for frizzy hair, but cooler, dryer weather also has a tendency to dry out our locks. To reverse the drying effects of fall weather on hair, there are tons of natural treatments you can make for yourself. Here are three of my current favorites.

Banana & Almond Oil Hair Mask

Banana almond oil mair mask

The banana softens your hair and protects its natural elasticity, while the almond oil keeps the moisture locked in. You’re left with smooth, soft hair that’s protected from the drying effects of dry, cool weather.

Ingredients:
1 medium banana
1 tsp almond oil

Mash up your banana, add in the almond oil, and mix well. Massage into your hair, concentrating on your ends, and let sit for about 30 minutes. Wash and condition your hair as usual.

Peppermint & Avocado Hair Mask

Avocado peppermint hair mask

The avocado, honey, and olive oil lock moisture into your hair, while the peppermint tea invigorates the scalp, leaving you with luscious, moisturized locks and a fresh, clean feeling.

Ingredients:
1 avocado
1 tbsp honey
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp loose peppermint tea

Mash up your avocado, add in the honey, olive oil, and tea, and mix well. Massage into your hair, concentrating on your ends, and let sit for about 30 minutes. Wash and condition your hair as usual.

Brown Sugar & Olive Oil Scalp Scrub

Brown sugar and olive oil hair mask

This scrub is really more about cleansing your scalp after a long summer spent under the sun. The brown sugar will act as an exfoliator, removing any sweat and sebum buildup that may have occurred over the past few months. The olive oil puts moisture back into the hair, prepping it for the cool, dry months ahead.

Ingredients:
2 tbsp brown sugar
1 tbsp olive oil

Combine the sugar and oil, and mix until you have an even consistency. Part your hair into multiple sections and gently massage the scrub into your scalp using small circular motions. Rinse your hair to remove the scrub, then wash and condition your hair as usual.

okay, so this is a little off the topic, but since we are talking about hair i was wondering if anybody in your office does/has tried the ‘no poo’ method? i really wanna try it but am worried about it damaging my already very short hair (about chin length). posting recipes they use or watching their transition from beginning to end would be awesome and super helpful!

I am curious… do you think these would be safe for color treated hair? A part of my hair is deep purple and I don’t want to strip out any more color than normally would wash out in the shower? I am guessing it would be fine since these are all naturally moisturizing vs a box product. Has anyone in the office tried DIY all natural conditioners for color treated hair? Thanks!

Liz – I have colored hair too, and have been told to stay away from sea salt of all kinds. A lot of products have sea salt in them and it strips color immediately! I think all the ingredients in this post are safe, but I’m not sure. Another ingredient to avoid is sulfate. This is usually the first or second item on ingredient lists in hair products. :)

Liz – I think no-poo works depending on your hair/skin type. Tons of people swear by it, but the people who have the hardest time with it (I’m in this category) are people with oily skin and fine/thin hair. I tried no-poo for 3 months and my sebum production never changed. I finally broke down and started using shampoo again when I saw little to no results. I will say this though, my hair was in amazing condition as far as individual strands go. Zero split ends and a lot less breakage in general. Good luck to you!

Hii!! I tried the banana hair mask and it was very hydrating, but the banana chunks got stuck in my hair and I couldnt get them out :/ If someone else tries the banana one, i reccomend mashing the banana for a really long tume to get all the chunjs out of the mask before you use it

I have fine hair, but tons of it. After this summer, the heat and sun left my scalp feeling super oily and itchy, something that’s not natural for me. After trying the scrub, it’s very gentle for those with a gentle scalp. But I can pull and yank my hair for days and am fine, so I was able to dig deep. Because it’s sugar, it rinses out easily but sticks in your hair while you’re working on it. This is definitely something I’ll be using again soon.

Thanks for sharing these! Avocados have been one of my go to foods recently, but the issue I run into is that they sometimes get too ripe too quickly—it’s great that you can still find ways to use them so as not to waste money!

My name is john, i leave in dublin , my girlfriend and i have
been together
for over 6 years now, in the last few weeks i have been
having problems
with her, I do love this woman a lot and do want to get
married to her but
at times i did feel a little confused about this and has
wondered if she
has been true to the relationship…until i found king son,
who told me
that she was not being true with me..I did later find out
that she has been
seeing her ex boyfriend I was devastated and did not
know what to do,
although I still loved her and could not see myself with
anyone else, I did
not want to lose her and king son assured me that they
could help me with
this problem, he told me about a spell caster DR.mercy i
decided to give
it a trier so I contacted mercylovespell@gmail.com once
again to let
him know that I did want to get help with this. With the
powers that they
do have my girlfriend and I did work a lot of things out and
she has came
back to me and we are now back together and engaged I
did get over the fact
that she has cheated on me but sometimes we do need to
forget the past and
move on to a better future and without king son’ help I
don’t think it
would have ever worked out.he is truly an Angel sent from

Hello! Is it okay if I use olive oil and banana as a moisturizing hair treatment? If yes, how much of each and is it as effective as almond oil and banana?? Thank You

Thanks for sharing, that’s so cute. What do you think is the best hair mask for hair breakage and split ends? It’s something I get asked quite often from my own blog’s readers, and I would love to know what you might think of it.
