Fun Ideas For Storing Makeup Brushes

If you wear makeup, you probably own a few makeup brushes. Maybe you keep them neatly tucked away in a brush case; maybe they’re kept on top of a vanity table for easy access; maybe they’re thrown in the nearest drawer to get them out of the way. If you have the urge to change up your storing situation, here’s some inspiration! These methods can also be used for storing other items like pens, pencils, and paint brushes :).

The classic way to store brushes is in a glass container filled with tiny spheric-shaped materials. This makes it easy for the brushes to stand up, and can look really beautiful if you choose the right materials. I like using containers of all different shapes, along with fillings that are a little bit unexpected.

Beach glass, rocks, colored sand

Sand is always a great option, and I like to take it one step further with a colored sand that I found at a craft store. I poured some into a small, hinge-top glass jar and used this to store my eye makeup brushes. I don’t know why this is, but the feeling of firmly placing a brush into the sand where it stands straight up is extremely fulfilling.

I also like the look of using larger-sized fillers like beach glass and rounded stones. Although this takes a little bit more maneuvering to get the brushes to stand up how I’d like them to, I think these materials give a really beautiful, unique look. I placed some dried flowers along with the sea glass — I thought the color palette went well together.

With the stones, I added in an air plant for a terrarium-like feeling.

This last way is a bit more unconventional – and my favorite of them all. All you need is a small stump of wood (I found mine at a flea market) and a drill! Using a drill bit that’s the same size as the diameter of your brushes, drill a few holes into the wood wherever you like. If you have brushes of different sizes, use different sized drill bits to accommodate each one.

Since I’m a little bit obsessed with wood burning at the moment (as you can see by my recent post on wood burning ideas…), I decided to add some fun detail to the wood to finish it off!

I have a very tiny bathroom counter space, so all my brushes sit in a cute glass on the counter… all right there ready for me every morning.

Love the wood block idea! I feel strange saying this, but I don’t have makeup brushes…I usually just use my finger for eyeshadow and lipstick (when I wear it). I’m pretty basic to mascara and a little face powder…more so because I’m lazy lol

I recycle tea tins and jam jars for organizing most things in my house – pens, buttons, paper clips, make-up brushes, cotton balls, etc. Coffee tins are especially great for loose change. I’m always on the look out for unique tea tins or collectable Nutella jars – I enjoy the product and then give the container a second life.

Also, once cleaned, you can spruce any container up with paint or etching and give someone a “useful pot to put things in.”
