Ayurveda Journal, Week 6: It’s All Connected

I got my first real taste of holistic healing about a year ago when I received acupuncture for the very first time – some of you may have read the acupuncture diary posts that went along with this. Since then, I’ve tried Reiki, and of course I’ve also become immersed in the world of Ayurveda. As I learn more about different forms of spiritual and holistic healing, it becomes clearer to me every day:

It's all connected

It’s all connected. While each practice may have a different name… a different way of doing things, it’s all connected. It’s all about setting us free. Free of pain, of worry, of stress, of fear. Connecting us with our bodies to free us from our minds. Allowing us to become one with ourselves, with each other, and with the world that we inhabit.

Boots, flowers, wood

When I had my first acupuncture session with Jenny, she informed me that in Chinese medicine it would be said that I have too much heat in my body, and that it seemed like I was holding a lot of emotion in my gut. When I tried Reiki, Lois told me she felt a dip of energy near my stomach, and that this was likely due to an inability to assimilate the new. And then there was Lilavati, who, within the first few minutes of speaking to me, told me that I was filled with fire… and later informed me that I had a lot of trapped energy in my body, particularly in my stomach. Heat… fire… energy and emotion trapped in the gut… it’s all connected. Three separate healers who specialize in different practices all told me three very similar things.

Book, dried ferns, candles

As I read Eckhart Tolle’s The Power of Now for the second time, I feel more connected to it than I did the first time around. The things he says make more sense to me, and I realize even further… it’s all connected. The whole concept of the book is the idea that focusing all of your energy on the here and now will free you from the burden of your mind, leaving you in nothing less than the most blissful state. Now, as I read his words, I’m reminded of the weekly yoga classes I take at Temple of the Lotus. Lilatvati is constantly reminding us to forget everything we think we know… to let go of the pent up energy that’s been acquired by each experience we’ve had up until this point… that everything we need is already here. We sit in the center of our mats to keep us centered, focused, and in the now. We’re not in the past, we’re not in the future, nor will we ever be. Everything we need is here and now. And everything is connected.

Love what you said here “… it’s all connected. It’s all about setting us free.” Soo true!! When I teach yoga I feel the practice is just one of the many ways people can begin to open up and let their higher intuitive self guide them. Beautiful post <3

I am loving these alternative medicine posts! I get reiki done and am actually attuned to reiki, meaning I can give reiki to others. It is the only thing that has truly made a mountain of difference in my health and well being. I sometimes don’t know how it’s even possible – but it works. I also have had gut issues for years. And I am starting to realize I have the power to know what my body needs and what it doesn’t. I have started to listen to my body – and I’ll tell you what, it’s the most powerful thing. If I do something I know I shouldn’t, I pay teh consequences. (Like drink too much, eat grains, etc.) I am learning more and more about myself and the process is invigorating!
