Sun Tonic & Moon Tonic

One to make as soon as you wake… to take with the sun and breathe life into your day. The other to sip by the side of the moon… relaxing the soul and preparing the body for a night filled with restful dreams.

When we wake, just as when we fall asleep, our bodies and minds shift into a new state. Waking from a slumber is like a daily rebirth — and it’s not always easy to make that transition. Similarly, when we transition from a day filled with thinking and moving and doing (and doing and doing), it’s not always easy to shake off everything we’ve just experienced in order to fall into a peaceful sleep. Today I’m sharing two homemade drinks — one to energize you in the morning; one to relax you at night. I love the idea of incorporating a daily and nightly beverage like these into your everyday routine.

Sun Tonic

I’ve never been one for a morning cup of coffee, and while I do love me a hot cup of tea, caffeinated beverages often make me feel jittery and anxious. This sun tonic is the perfect answer for those of you who aren’t so into caffeine. It smells amazing, tastes delicious, and offers up a ton of energy for your day — all without the not-so-nice side effects of caffeine. It actually mimics a wonderful espresso drink quite well — I love the froth that forms on top!

Natural energy tonic

Made with: almond milk, coconut oil, ashwaganda root powder, turmeric powder, carob powder, and agave nectar.

Ashwaganda root is a powerful herb often used in Ayurvedic medicine. It helps increase energy while balancing the body and increasing immunity. Turmeric is a spice that is another favorite when it comes to Ayurveda. It’s loved by many for its anti-inflammatory properties, and is excellent for detoxifying the liver, and improving the immune system, as well. (See more uses for turmeric).

To make: Heat 3 cups almond milk on the stove top to your desired temperature. Pour milk into a blender, add in 1 teaspoon coconut oil, 1 teaspoon ashwaganda root, 2 teaspoons agave nectar (or more if you like it sweet!), and 1 tablespoon carob powder, and blend until smooth. Pour into a glass or mug, add in 1 teaspoon turmeric, stir, and enjoy!

Moon Tonic

While I’m usually quite tired come evening, there are some nights where I just can’t seem to shut my mind off. It just keeps going and going, wandering from one topic to the next with seemingly no desire to stop. I love this moon tonic drink because it’s a tad more interesting than the average cup of tea, and it engulfs you in a gorgeous aroma as you sip.

Sleep aid tonic

Made with: tart cherry juice, chamomile tea, and vanilla extract.

Tart cherries are filled with melatonin, which helps control our sleep and wake cycles. Chamomile is widely used for aiding with sleep and calming upset stomach — its relaxation properties make it the perfect nighttime herb. Vanilla is one of the most calming aromas, making it, too, a beautiful choice to include in this moon tonic.

To make: Brew half a cup of chamomile tea. Add in two drops of vanilla extract. Fill to the brim with tart cherry juice, stir well, and drink up! This can be enjoyed hot or cold.

How much do you use of the oil, agave and powders for the Sun Tonic?

Lovely, Brigette! You always have the greatest cups and bottles for your beauty creations. Where do you get them? In the process of making my own natural shampoo, but I don’t know what to put it in.

The night tonic sounds so yummy and wholesome! I am a little bit wary about actually eating the coconut oil though! Coconut oil has so many saturated fat and part of the reason I do not consume animal products is to avoid saturated fat found in red meat and butter. I love coconut oil for oil pulling and skincare but I am not sure I am ready to put it in my body. Are there any alternatives to using oil? Thanks for the recipes! I look forward to trying them.

In the morning before I digest anything or brush my teeth I mix the juice of half a lemon in a cup of warm water, add a dab of honey and drink up. This mixture flushes the kidneys and gastrointestinal tract to help metabolize all day!

At night I heat a cup of whole milk until it boils. I add a pinch of ground cardamom, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Once it’s cooled I add a little honey to taste. Substitute for milk could be chamomile, valerian, or lemon balm tea.

I think this the best post you’ve had. I have frequent headaches and daily pain. I just got a hold of some Ashwaghanda last week and started making the sun tonic. Now, I’m a believer.
From day one I have felt better. It seems to have erased all of the knots in my back and shoulders and neck, and I haven’t had any headaches. Also, I’ve been able to get up earlier and last longer at work.
I still get tired when I work out, but there is nothing like the tension before.

Is there a place you recommend to purchase organic ashwagandha? I’ve only found it at starwest botanicals online and I don’t need a pound before trying it.

Is it suppose to be ashwaganda? Because I’m only finding things for ashwagandha, and I don’t know if they’re the same thing

Sooner or later, Google will find all new spam methods.
This will allow you to answer only those calls that come
in on your forwarded toll free number and route other calls to different locations.
But it seems Memorial Day wasn’t important enough to Google.
