Got a car, got some gas… let’s get out of here, get out of here fast…
The lyrics from Pearl Jam’s “Untitled” perfectly capture the essence of hitting the road. Armed with one bag of belongings, a camera and some rolls of film, and a trusty companion, there’s really nothing else you need. The thought, “road trip,” is almost synonymous with summer. The freedom, the open road, the lack of all boundaries… they go perfectly hand in hand. I think we have all experienced the feeling – whether we’re on a short trip or a long one – which is why we can all relate to it so strongly. Some of my fondest memories from my life were experienced on the road – particularly in the Southwest. Wind in my hair, wonder in my eyes, and the feeling of being oh so small in the surroundings of towering canyons and crystal blue waters that carve their way through rocks. The sky even seems bigger out there – no tall buildings to block the view, just 360 degrees of sky. Photographer Ryan Brabazon and model Amy Charsley met up in Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago, and traveled 1300 miles in 4 days – from Zion National Park to Lake Powell and the Grand Canyon, and finishing the trip in Joshua Tree. It might just be the ultimate road trip, and these photos so perfectly capture all that I love so dearly in being on the road – I can actually feel the wind in Amy’s hair and the goosebumps on her skin as she splashes happily in Lake Powell. Thank you so much for letting us tag along, you two!

this brings back so many memories… as a kid our family always packed up and took of on long road trips to the south and northwest every long summer vacation to the forest, the desert, the ocean, touring all the national parks, eating at road side dinners untouched by time, sleeping at roadside motels, i loved looking at all the maps, seeing where we were and where we were going…. thank you so much for sharing this wonderful post!

Love the shoot!
Road trips are essential for summer, I can’t imagine surviving the season without at least one. Mine for this year is to Colorado. All I need is a trusty car, a great playlist, some torn and true cutoffs, and my co-pilot pug, Fran.

Quit your job.
Buy a ticket.
Fall in love.
Never return.

Quit your job – this way you won’t have any money for the road, or for living – priceless. Truth is – Quit your Job if it makes you unhappy – but for the most part, work at what you love, and you will never work a day in your Life!
Buy a ticket – let’s go back to the first line…(unless you saved up for months to do this, of course)
Fall in Love – with? what? whom? Yourself, of course! I have found that travelling alone has brought me more adventure and people in my life than when I travelled with a partner! Better yet, if you get lonely, bring along a buddy – your dog (or cat)..or bird
Never return – To Your Old self, now that you are enlightened with all the possibilities and gifts that life handed you along the way….until your next adventure.
Juliana – from someone who knows.
I am in awe.
