Getting Back To The Heart Of It All

America is a place full of geographical contradictions…over here, buildings scrape the sky, their tops getting lost in the clouds; over there, the rugged cliffs of the Pacific Northwest drop off into turbulent blue waters; and in that corner, desert plains are interrupted by rocky red structures and jagged canyons.  And in the center, in the heart of it all… rolling fields, flatlands, farms, and a way of life that reminds us of the values this country was founded on.

She left the city to get back to the heart of it all.  She wanted to get back to her roots, to be closer to the earth. Some may call it a simpler life, and in ways it is – she ditched the cell phone and the TV, the luxuries of modern life she has no use for here.  But it’s hard work.  She wakes up before the dawn, and her days don’t end until well after the sun bids the earth goodnight.  But she loves the work, and the knowledge that she is physically responsible for planting and harvesting all that she consumes.  There is a tremendous sense of pride in this type of life – knowing the work that went into it makes the fruits of her labor all the more enjoyable.  Her favorite part of the day is spending time with her horses. She watches them run and she knows that deep down she is just like them – she can never be tamed. And when her work is over she lies in the golden fields, the grass tickling her skin as she watches the clouds roll overhead, and feels a freedom she never felt anywhere else.
