A Snapshot An Hour

I always find it really interesting to get a glimpse into other people’s lives. What do they find themselves doing on a typical day? Who are they interacting with? What are they eating? Where are they going?

My life has changed drastically since leaving Philadelphia last month and moving back to where I’m from on Long Island. Over the past few years, I’ve allowed myself to accumulate way too much stress. I’ve allowed my mind to go buck wild, and it definitely has taken a toll on me – mentally and physically. It was clear I needed to take a step back and re-center myself. These days, I’ve been focusing on slowing it down; on taking care of myself from the inside out; on bringing my life back into that ever-important balanced state. I want to thank you all for being so incredibly supportive of my journey – you’re such gems to me. Here’s what some of my days have been looking like lately, hour by hour…

If you’ve never documented an entire day of yours like this, you should try it! It can be a really interesting eye-opener about how you go about your own life on a daily basis.

8am: Morning light

morning light

Nothing compares to the feeling of waking with the morning light. It’s so refreshing and rejuvenating. It fills my body with energy to just get up and go. It’s a brand new day, and anything is possible.

9am: Juice time

green juice

Getting a juicer has been one of the best recent things to have happened to me. I can consume an entire cucumber, apple, and handful or two of kale in a matter of seconds – and when they’re juiced, the nutrients are absorbed into the body at an incredibly quick rate. A juice buzz is the best kind of buzz.

10am: Boot camp

hose

My sister teaches intense boot camp classes outside, which I’m SO happy to get to go to. This girl is whipping me into shape, and I’m already seeing results in the way I look and the amount of energy I have. Only thing is… whoever can’t hold their plank gets sprayed with a hose. Ha!

11am: My #OOTD

free people outfit

I’ve fallen in love with the Sundown Babydoll Dress. Just makes me want to go post up on a sunny patio with a fun crew of people and have brunch for, like, 4 hours.

12pm: Packing orders

packages

I finally opened an Etsy shop, which I’d been wanting to do for years! I don’t know if anything is really to come of it, but I’ve gotten a bunch of orders already and I’m having such a fun time running a mini business at home.

1pm: Thrift time

island thrift

Thrifting in the suburbs is always so much better than thrifting in the city, and this particular place happens to be a gold mine. I don’t think I’ve ever walked out empty-handed.

2pm: The results

thrifted jewelry

These are some of the gems I found. I’m so in love with all of these necklaces. I honestly want to keep them all for myself, but alas, I must put them in my shop to share with you lovely people!

3pm: Meditative oasis

outdoor oasis

This is my little outdoor oasis. I love to be by the water, but it’s not the beach that does it for me. It’s meadows, streams, rivers… a shady spot where the sunlight peeks through – always surrounded by green. I come here to submerge myself in nature; to meditate. To just breathe and be.

4pm: Snack of choice

toast

My recent indulgence has been this Whole Foods brand gluten-free bread. Holy cow. Throw some Earth Balance on top of a freshly-toasted slice and you will not know what to do with yourself.

5pm: Getting organized

journal

Something I want to work on is my organization, and I’m starting with a simple planner. Even with a much chiller life, I still find myself with lists of things that must be done by certain days and times! Enter the golden planner. I always find it so much more fulfilling to write my tasks down by hand and then physically cross them out once completed, as opposed to doing it digitally, don’t you?

6pm: Creating

beads and twine

Working on a little something that might appear on the blog soon… I love making things with my hands at this time of the evening. The sun is toying with the idea of setting, yet it’s still high in the sky, streaming through the windows just right. It always gives me a burst of creative energy.

7pm: Burning it

incense

Nothing snaps me into the present moment quite like incense does. I’m constantly in awe of the way the smoke spirals up and away from the lit tip in the most beautiful designs imaginable. I’ve been burning a lot of sandalwood incense these days, which is uplifting, sensual, and meditative all at once.

8pm: Going out

lipstick

Most of my friends are either in Philly or New York City – both of which I live hours from. I’ve been a lot less social since moving, but it’s been really good for my mind. It’s also made spending time with friends that much more enjoyable. On this night, I met up with a few friends for a drink – two of whom I’d just met a week prior. We sat outside on the patio of a bar and just chilled. Perfect weather makes life that much better.

I love the idea of doing this, but I feel like I do the same thing every day, lol. Maybe it would give me insight to help break the same ole everyday cycle. I feel most creative in the evening as well, there’s just something about that magic hour.

Megan – I think if you try it, you might find that you are actually doing different things every day and just not realizing it! Or that’s true, too, it could inspire you to do some new things! Try it, try it!! :) xox

oh my gosh this is amazing! I work the usual 8-hr workday so I doubt my mine looks as interesting as yours. I tend to stay in one activity for hours.

this is such a fun idea!!!! i really love it. I love taking pictures throughout my day and then lay in bed before sleep and look through all of them, BUT, I always find myself actually forgetting to take pictures! So sad. I’m inspired xo
